Marine Master/Engineer Traineeship

Based in Townsville, Pacific Marine Group (PMG) is a marine contractor at the forefront of the Maritime Industry in Northern Australia and the Pacific Rim. With approximately 200 employees working in the main divisions of Marine, Diving and Construction, PMG prides itself on its ability to efficiently undertake work in each of these areas as well as complete larger projects integrating all divisions of the business. PMG are offering eligible candidates a 24‑month Marine Traineeship to receive an AMSA qualification as either of the below: Marine Engine Driver Grade 2 Either of these qualifications on offer will set you up with a valuable career working on the water About the role Opportunity to work on various marine construction projects both local, Australian Coastal, and International. The successful candidate will receive: Australian Maritime Safety Authority (AMSA) qualifications as per above A weekly wage Leave entitlements including Annual Leave and Personal Leave Mentoring and ongoing support Ability to learn a vast range of industry skills Experience working with internationally recognised Mariners An Employee Assistance Program – a free and confidential phone‑based counselling service available This Traineeship will be based in the Townsville yard, working Monday‑Friday. Once you’ve built up enough experience, you’ll get the chance to head out on the boats on various projects. High performing trainees may be given the opportunity to continue as full‑time employees, with career advancement, once their traineeship is complete. Due to the nature of the work, it is essential that trainees have a mature and responsible approach to their work and a willingness to work away from home for long periods of time – this can be up to 4 weeks staying on a vessel. About you You are an enthusiastic and dedicated individual committed to gaining a nationally recognised qualification whilst being provided the right skills, guidance and professional development that can lead to exciting career opportunities. Enthusiastic, punctual, and great work ethic Enjoy being practical, hands‑on, and outdoor Have experience, knowledge, or passion to work in the Maritime Industry Have a ‘can‑do’ positive attitude Having a Driver’s licence is a must Be adaptable to changing priorities Can provide two work or school related references Successful candidates will be required to pass an aptitude test and a pre‑employment medical, including drug and alcohol testing. Experience in and around water-based activities is advantageous, but not essential. In addition, the successful applicant may need to be able to obtain a passport and police clearance if required for specific projects.
