Educational Leader in an Early Learning Centre (ELC) The role of an Educational Leader in an Early Learning Centre (ELC) is pivotal in ensuring high-quality early childhood education. This role is both strategic and practical, supporting educators to improve their teaching practices and promoting continuous learning and reflective practice. The Educational Leader ensures that teaching is intentional, reflective, and child‑centred, ultimately helping to shape a rich, responsive, and engaging secular and Jewish learning environment. Key Roles and Responsibilities of an Ed Leader in our ELC at KTC: Curriculum and Pedagogy Leadership Guide the development, implementation, and evaluation of the educational program. Ensure that curriculum decisions are informed by the Early Years Learning Framework (EYLF) and reflect current best practices. Support educators in planning, documenting, and reflecting on children’s learning. Mentoring and Supporting Educators Provide mentoring and professional guidance to educators. Support critical reflection on practice to improve outcomes for children. Encourage collaboration and team discussions around pedagogy and child development. Quality Improvement Contribute to the service’s Quality Improvement Plan (QIP). Identify areas for growth and lead initiatives to improve teaching and learning. Ensure practices align with the National Quality Standard (NQS), particularly Quality Area 1 – Educational Program and Practice. Professional Development Identify training needs and support ongoing professional learning for staff. Organise or facilitate in‑house training and professional development opportunities. Building a Learning Culture Promote a culture of inquiry, learning, and continuous improvement. Foster strong relationships with children, families, and the community as part of a holistic educational approach. Documentation and Assessment Support educators in effectively documenting and assessing children’s learning. Ensure documentation aligns with learning outcomes and reflects each child’s developmental progress.
