Superintendent – Health | FIFO to PNG

New Porgera Limited (NPL) is a company incorporated in Papua New Guinea and owns the Porgera Gold Mine in Enga Province. The Porgera Gold Mine will employ nearly 3,000 Papua New Guineans at full production, and over the last 30 years of life of the mine it has contributed approximately 10% of Papua New Guinea’s total annual exports. About the role As we continue to optimise production in 2025, we are seeking an experienced Superintendent – Health to join our Porgera based operation leading our Medical & Health facilities and teams. This is a highly visible both a ‘hands on’ and strategic role, creating objectives and targets to elevate our Health and Wellbeing standards and culture. You will further build, optimise and execute processes, and clinical best-practice to across the operation whilst equally focused on spending time with your team identifying cultural, procedural and technological optimisation in providing frontline and preventative medical services for NPL employees, their families and contractors in our active mining environment. Primary functions within the team include supporting clinical care, health risk analysis, and emergency medical response (trauma response) to maintain health compliance and worker safety in remote operational areas. A key part of the role is developing health promotion activities by educating workers on hygiene, disease prevention, and wellness practices as part of an operationally focused team that ensures consistent and reliable medical support (including compliant records management), communicate departmental priorities and processes, balancing operational requirements with compliance to deliver fit for purpose, pragmatic solutions, and ongoing upskilling of our local and national team. As subject matter expert, you will provide leadership, coaching, and instill behaviours and practices that drive zero harm across our operations whilst growing the teams skills and supporting systems, focusing on compliance and continuous improvement, recommending and facilitating system improvements and initiatives are legally and statutory compliant, to both PNG national legislation and NPL standards, ensuring our people are qualified to deliver safety outcomes and maintain high quality operational standards. As a senior leader in the business with multiple internal and external stakeholders you will have standout communication skills and the ability to influence and negotiate. You will be leading and coaching a small team of motivated individuals, identifying opportunities to leverage strengths and build the team's capability. The role holds responsibility for development and project management of frameworks, standards, policies, procedures and initiatives to ensure we maintain all certifications and accreditations to operate. NPL seek continuous improvement, automation, simplification and optimisation and seek to further improve our working practices, use of vendors and ongoing upskilling of our local and national team. You will model safety behaviours and coach and develop your team, working with your team to assess and manage risk. NPL operates in a complex environment that requires the successful applicant to be a self-starter, with strong ability in delivery to support the mines successful operation whilst coordinating the efforts of your team members to complete projects according to plan in a timely and safe manner. Given the dynamic environment, you must demonstrate agility and an ability to work effectively under pressure, understand and meet deadlines, and manage multiple projects simultaneously. To succeed in this role, you must combine strong team leadership, stakeholder relations, and medical operational knowledge with a relevant bachelor’s degree (clinical/emergency nursing or similar) and demonstrable experience managing in emergency department/triage in a remote clinic or mining/oil & gas onsite environment, ideally in a developing nation at both operational and strategic level. Prior knowledge of Papua New Guinea's regulatory environment and community dynamic is advantageous. A current Authority to Practice license from Papua New Guinea Nursing Council is highly desirable. The team will be lead in line with NPL safety policies and standards whilst measuring and monitoring functional performance, moving towards world-class practices and with a continuous improvement mindset.
