Pet friendly workplace Leave benefits including public holiday swap, gifted annual leave, and wellbeing leave Employee discounts and gym membership benefits The Role The Philanthropy Manager plays an integral role in supporting philanthropic revenue growth for the organisation. A key focus of the role is the support of the Institute's Comprehensive Campaign, a strategic project that will enable the organisation to significantly grow its impact on research and implementation. This role supports the Comprehensive Campaign Director in managing and stewarding relationships in relation to the Campaign as well as providing coordination of events, proposals and solicitation of gifts. Working with the Philanthropy team, the Philanthropy Manager will continue to account manage and steward newly acquired Campaign donors once their pledge is secured. Working closely with the Comprehensive Campaign Director, the Philanthropy Manager will help support internal and external stakeholders to ensure tasks related to the Campaign remain on track. The role will also be responsible for ensuring that new systems and processes that are developed for the Campaign are adopted and embedded into The Institute. The Philanthropy Manager will work with the Philanthropy team to ensure the best practice and donor‑centric approach to managing Major Donor prospects and current donors at Black Dog Institute. Duties & Responsibilities Work alongside the Comprehensive Campaign Director and external stakeholders to progress the Campaign Strategy, Campaign plan of action and Moves Management plans. Plan and deliver any bespoke events related to the Campaign or are bespoke to key members of the Foundation Board, Governance Board or Chief Scientist. Assist in preparing proposals, any other resources, and internal deliverables for gift solicitation. Manage the stewardship and recognition of gifts made to the campaign. Support the Campaign Director in duties that are required to successfully progress the Campaign. Work with the Philanthropy and Partnerships team and wider organisation to help support identification of major donors and funders to the Campaign. Relationship and Prospect Management Ensure key prospects have current research profiles and moves management plans. Provide strong customer service and forge and maintain relationships with donors to the Institute. Manage reporting and key communication pieces to donors of the Campaign. Working alongside stakeholders, be a point of contact for key Foundation and Board directors, in relation to Institute events, such as the sports lunches, and thank you events. Account manage new donors through the Campaign, and any additional major donors or major donor prospects to BDI when deemed appropriate to do so. Support the Philanthropy and Partnerships team in areas of work that relate to major gift giving. Systems and Processes Working alongside the Campaign Director and external stakeholders, lead the development of and embedding of processes and systems related to philanthropy including prospect research, moves management, stewardship, gift recognition etc. Ensure database records of campaign donors and actions are accurate and current. Existing Philanthropic Supporters Working with the Philanthropy team, support strategic development and engagement of existing Major Donors and prospects that are outside of Campaign Management. Lead and/or support the development and delivery of funding proposals and ensure that funding obligations are met. Ensure database records of donors and actions are accurate and current. Stakeholder Management Work closely with key stakeholders including, Campaign Director, consultancies, Institute Board, Foundation Board, Director’s office and Executive Leadership Team (ELT) to support the deliverables of the Campaign strategy. Support the delivery of the Philanthropy strategy. Collaborate with other Directorates (such as Research and Research Translation) to understand funding needs and to write proposals. Work with the Philanthropy Team and wider Fundraising Directorate as required to support the Comprehensive Campaign. Skills & Experience Required A relevant tertiary qualification or equivalent in marketing, or business and/or at least 3 (three) years’ experience in successful major gift fundraising and supporting high value asks. Demonstrated strategic thinking and well‑developed planning and project management skills. Demonstrated ability to support Board Directors, Major Donors and Executive Teams, including coordination of tasks and providing advice. Proficient oral and written communications skills, including public speaking and presenting. High Level interpersonal and negotiating skills and a proven ability to develop genuine long‑term relationships with a wide range of stakeholders to achieve mutually beneficial outcomes. An established track record in writing successful funding applications. High attention to detail and a sound ability to think critically and strategically. Willing to travel interstate as needed and capacity to work outside business hours. Alignment to Black Dog Institute’s work, mission and values.
