About the Role The Principal Data and Insights is a pivotal role transforming research and data into actionable insights for the Global Corporate Affairs and Communications function and broader business to help protect and enhance BHP’s reputation, manage risk and contribute to social value creation. Responsibilities Develop and execute a comprehensive research, data and insights strategy aligned with corporate objectives and regional market needs to support business, brand, reputation and advocacy goals. Oversee the collection, analysis and interpretation of market data (corporate reputation tracking, stakeholder sentiment, community perception, political polling, project specific) to provide actionable insights. Translate complex data into clear narratives, enabling non-technical stakeholders to make informed decisions. Advise senior leadership on data‑related matters, contributing to business discussions with actionable, data‑driven insights. Present findings and recommendations that inform strategy to senior leadership and stakeholders in a clear and compelling manner. Work closely with cross‑functional teams to ensure alignment and integration of insights into strategy and plans. Manage relationships with external research vendors, polling agencies and data analytics organisations to ensure high‑quality deliverables. Stay abreast of industry trends and emerging technologies to continuously improve research methodologies and tools. Identify, explore and implement cutting‑edge techniques in the insights field to keep our research approaches at the forefront of industry standards. Champion the use of advanced analytics, AI and machine learning to uncover deeper insights and drive strategic decision‑making. About You Demonstrated experience in market research and/or political polling. Proven leadership experience. Strategic mindset with the ability to align data initiatives to business outcomes. Deep understanding of research methodologies and audience insights. Strong analytical skills for turning data into actionable insights and applying solutions to real‑world challenges. Strong knowledge of brand and reputation evaluation and effectiveness measures. Clear and demonstrable experience in generating actionable insights that have led to positive outcomes or contributed to shaping and meeting business objectives. Advanced planning and organisational capabilities to manage complex projects and stakeholders, with the ability to communicate effectively at the C‑suite level. Excellent problem‑solving skills, with the capacity to navigate ambiguity, manage competing priorities and make sound, data‑informed recommendations. A natural ability to influence positive outcomes without direct authority, working collaboratively across functions to achieve shared goals. Highly organised and comfortable operating in a fast‑paced, dynamic environment, with a commitment to fostering a culture of transparency and accountability. Deep understanding of data governance, ethical data use and privacy considerations. Proficiency in statistical analysis, data visualisation and business intelligence tools.
