About the role AEMO in Western Australia is implementing comprehensive changes to the Wholesale Electricity Market and our operation of the South West Interconnected System, to better plan and forecast system needs, build the capability to operate with increasing levels of intermittent generation and encourage investment in the new facilities necessary to meet increasing demand and replace retiring thermal generation. Representing a planned investment of $25m over a 3‑year period, the Reserve Capacity Mechanism (RCM) Review Program is a significant undertaking to support the energy transition, implementing state government reforms to incentivise the investment in generation and demand‑side capacity needed to maintain reliability as demand for power grows and generation shifts towards intermittent renewable sources.
