ITC Caseworker (12-month maternity leave position) Please note that this is a 12-month maternity leave position Wandiyali is a Newcastle-based Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community Organisation. Our services operate throughout Newcastle, Lake Macquarie, Hunter Region and Port Stephens. The aim of Wandiyali and its services is to ‘Keep our Culture Strong’. Then this may be the job for you The Opportunity The PSP ITC Caseworker will provide comprehensive case management and support to children and young people in an Intensive Therapeutic Care (ITC) setting. This involves developing, implementing, and reviewing individualised case plans that address the unique needs of each child or young person, ensuring their safety, stability, and well‑being while promoting their Social, Emotional, and Cultural development. The role emphasises adherence to the Aboriginal Placement Principles, the Social and Emotional Wellbeing (SEWB) framework, and the standards set by the Office of the Children’s Guardian (OCG). Cultural confidence and ability to demonstrate knowledge and experience working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people in the community. Tertiary qualification in Social Work, Social Science, Psychology, or a related field AND experience working with children and young people in the statutory care system. Experience in case management within the child protection, out‑of‑home care, or intensive therapeutic care sectors, including: An understanding and application of the Children and Young Persons (Care and Protection) Act 1998 and related legislation Providing direct support to children and young people, including those with complex needs Ability to engage and work collaboratively with family and significant others Strong advocacy skills with the ability to promote the rights and best interests of children and young people Please note that applications may close earlier than the stated date, if a suitable applicant is found. Tertiary qualification in Social Work, Social Science, Psychology, or a related field. Experience in case management within the child protection, out‑of‑home care, or intensive therapeutic care sectors. Understanding and application of the Children and Young Persons (Care and Protection) Act 1998 and related legislation. Knowledge and application of the Aboriginal Placement Principles. Knowledge of trauma‑informed care principles and therapeutic approaches for children and young people. Experience working within a multidisciplinary team to deliver therapeutic interventions. Strong advocacy skills with the ability to promote the rights and best interests of children and young people. Experience providing direct support to children and young people, including those with complex needs. Ability to engage and work collaboratively with families and significant others. Strong organisational skills with the ability to maintain accurate and up‑to‑date case records and documentation. Experience preparing reports and documentation for regulatory bodies and funding agencies. Ability to respond effectively to crises and critical incidents, providing appropriate support and intervention. Experience conducting risk assessments and developing safety plans. Understanding of safety protocols and procedures in crisis situations. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Strong negotiation and conflict resolution skills. Commitment to ongoing professional development and learning. Ability to engage in reflective practice and contribute to continuous improvement processes.
