About The Role Publican – In the world of pubs, leadership is the art of turning strangers into friends and friends into loyal guests. A true local icon, the Balaclava Hotel is the go‑to spot for relaxed dining, celebrations and easy‑going stays in Cairns. We’re looking for a Publican who can bring strong leadership, community connection and a passion for great hospitality to this much‑loved venue. A Day In The Life Of a Publican You know the locals by name, they reckon you’re one of their own, all while keeping a sharp eye on the P&L. You run the place like it’s your own modern‑day home, keeping things safe, smooth and compliant. You’re the pillar of the local community and the driving force behind a high‑performing team. You put out fires before anyone even notices there was smoke. You bring the vibe, the service and the smiles – every shift, every day. Inherent Requirements This is a hands‑on role that involves manual handling and lifting as part of regular duties (e.g. moving stock, kegs and deliveries). Applicants must have the ability to perform physical tasks safely and efficiently. About You Hold current industry RSA and RSG/RCG qualifications as per state requirements.
