The Role We have an exciting opportunity for a Bricklayer to join our team. This is a rare chance to combine your passion and knowledge with your technical skills whilst progressing your career. Key Responsibilities Reading and working from plans and specifications. Measuring out the work area and laying the first courses according to the architect's plans. Measuring distances from reference points and marking guidelines on the working surface to layout work. Calculating angles and determining the vertical and horizontal alignment of courses. Sealing foundations with damp‑resistant material. Erecting and dismantling restricted‑height scaffolding. Spreading a soft bed of mortar that serves as base and binder for blocks, using trowel. Applying mortar to the end of a block and positioning the block in the mortar bed. Tapping block with trowel to level, align and embed in mortar, allowing the specified thickness of joint. Finishing mortar between bricks with pointing tool or trowel. Spreading mortar to fix bricks in place. Fastening bricks with wire clamps or cement. Laying bricks in horizontal layers (courses). Operating brick‑cutting machines. Cutting bricks to size using hammers or bolsters. Mixing mortar, either with a mixing machine or by hand. Ensuring that the line of the wall is totally straight and level, using a spirit level or plumb line. Ensuring that a structure is perfectly vertical and horizontal, using a plumb bob and level. Making access holes in the wall to allow electricians, plumbers and other workers to bring water, electricity and commodities into the site. Setting up and erecting scaffolding. Working outdoors on construction sites, in all weathers and at height. Requirements Certificate III in Bricklaying with 1 year previous experience in a similar role. Able to work independently, as well as with a team. Good organisational and communication skills. Excellent communicator and analytical thinker, with an ability to use data to inform all decisions. High level of flexibility and a positive approach to the challenging demands of high‑growth outcome.
