Advanced Peer Worker (Identified - Lived Experience) Join to apply for the Advanced Peer Worker (Identified - Lived Experience) role at Metro South Health . Overview Bring your lived/living experience of mental health and/or substance use recovery to a role where your voice, insight and hope directly shape recovery‑oriented care within an acute inpatient setting. Your New Role This role uses the power of lived/living experience to support consumers during their admission to an acute adult inpatient mental health ward, promoting hope, recovery and social inclusion as part of a multidisciplinary team. Use your lived/living experience to model recovery strategies, providing peer support, education, advocacy and referral for consumers in an inpatient setting. Work collaboratively with the multidisciplinary clinical team to develop, coordinate and support individual rehabilitation and recovery goals. Provide individual and group peer support that builds consumer capacity, independence and engagement with services and community supports. Contribute to a recovery‑oriented, person‑centred inpatient environment by advocating for inclusive practices and continuous service improvement. This is an identified vacancy with a genuine occupational requirement that candidates are persons who have a lived/living experience of mental health challenges, substance use challenges, service use and recovery. Candidates must include a statement in their application if they identify with one or more of these attributes. Only candidates who meet this requirement will be considered. About You You have personal lived/living experience of mental health and/or substance use issues and are comfortable sharing recovery stories and strategies to support consumers. You build strong, respectful relationships with consumers, carers, families and health professionals, grounded in recovery principles and peer work values. You communicate proactively and work effectively within a multidisciplinary team while maintaining professional peer boundaries. You bring empathy, resilience and a trauma‑informed, strengths‑based approach, with an understanding of diversity and inclusion.
