About the role The Gas Market Operations team is responsible for the monitoring and operation of Australia’s east coast wholesale gas markets. The monitoring function includes analysing and reporting key market events both internally and externally via AEMO’s key reports. The team also supports market stakeholders in their use of market systems and educating them on market outcomes. The team is also the business owner for interfaces, data and the market systems and leads engagement with participants and IT to make enhancements. You will contribute to the continued operation and development of systems and processes for the following functions of Market Operations and Market Monitoring. In the role, you will develop knowledge of the wholesale gas markets and the factors that influence outcomes including the interaction with the National Electricity Market. You will join an on-call roster to support markets, responding to urgent phone calls, and will be eligible to receive an on-call allowance to undertake this work. What you will be doing Follow and maintain procedures, action scheduled tasks, work on projects under guidance of senior team members. Develop Excel spreadsheets, Power BI dashboards and SQL queries to analyse market operations and streamline data extraction and reporting for a broad audience. Respond to queries and requests submitted by market participants. Derive insights from market events, outcomes and trends to inform key stakeholders of market behaviours and opportunities for market improvement. When required, contribute to and prepare reports for publication on market events and present reports at forums/meetings on market outcomes. What you will bring to the role Bachelor degree or higher in economics, commerce, law, finance, information technology, engineering or a related discipline. Experience working in an analytical role, ideally in the energy sector and gas markets. Advanced skills in MS Excel, Word, PowerPoint with knowledge of SQL, PowerBI and Python an advantage. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with an ability to draw out conclusions from statistical analysis. Capability to interpret, operate in compliance with legal instruments such as rules and regulations, and an ability to develop technical documents such as procedures.
