Australian Marine Conservation Society – Brisbane QLD The Australian Marine Conservation Society (AMCS) is the voice for Australia’s ocean. We are Australia’s leading ocean conservation organisation and one of the founding members of Australia’s conservation movement. We are a community of ocean lovers across the nation, working to protect our precious marine wildlife and secure healthy seas. As an independent charity, our team of scientists, advocates and campaigners work daily to safeguard Australia’s oceans. Our Strategic Plan 2026–2030 sets out five goals: driving climate action for the ocean, protecting threatened species and habitats, safeguarding critical places, building support for our ocean, and strengthening AMCS as an effective and sustainable organisation. Location Meanjin (Brisbane), working at least one to two days a week in the AMCS Brisbane office, with flexibility to work remotely on other days. Hours Full-time, 1.0 Full-Time (38 hours per week) Salary AMCS Level 6, aligned with the Social, Community, Home Care and Disability Services Industry Award 2010. Salary circa $110,000–$120,000 per annum, plus 12.5% superannuation. Contract Period Fixed-term contract for two years. The Role The Fundraising Manager leads AMCS’s fundraising operations, driving supporter growth, income generation and long-term donor engagement. Reporting to the Fundraising Director, the role manages a multi‑disciplinary sub‑team responsible for appeals, acquisition, regular giving, digital fundraising, community fundraising, merchandising fundraising and donor care. The Fundraising Manager ensures all programmes are strategic, integrated and evidence‑based, achieving AMCS’s income, retention and engagement goals while maintaining the highest ethical and professional standards in line with the Fundraising Institute Australia (FIA) Code of Conduct. This role is central to translating AMCS’s vision of a thriving ocean for a healthy planet into measurable outcomes that sustain our mission and amplify our impact. Travel The role requires intermittent travel within Australia. Key Responsibilities Deliver AMCS’ Mission and Strategic Plan Lead fundraising programmes that underpin AMCS’ Strategic Plan and financial sustainability. Translate AMCS’ vision of “a thriving ocean for a healthy planet” into measurable income and supporter outcomes. Ensure fundraising activity is mission‑aligned, evidence‑based and values‑driven. Represent AMCS nationally as a trusted and ethical fundraising organisation. 2. People and Team Leadership Supervise and mentor the Fundraising Sub‑Team, ensuring high performance, collaboration and professional development. Build a values‑led culture focused on wellbeing, inclusion and innovation. Lead through organisational growth and change with clarity and accountability. Model AMCS’ values and foster a team culture of learning, respect and excellence. 3. Supporter Growth and Income Generation Lead strategy and delivery across fundraising streams: appeals, regular giving, community fundraising, retail merchandising and donor care and retention. Oversee mass marketing fundraising to build brand visibility, grow supporter volume and income and strengthen engagement. Drive donor acquisition (cash and regular) through integrated, multi‑channel campaigns. Ensure effective donor conversion from supporters to financial givers across multi‑channel campaigns. Working with the Fundraising‑Philanthropy specialists to support development of the pipeline and targeted approaches for major and mid‑value donors and bequests. 4. Single Giving and Appeals Fundraising Oversee the strategy and implementation of digital fundraising and online giving programmes. Oversee the strategy and delivery of integrated multi‑channel appeals that deliver cohesive supporter journeys across email, SMS, social, website, tele‑marketing and direct mail. Collaborate with communications and campaigns teams to align fundraising storytelling and content. 5. Regular Giving Oversee the solid and strong existing Regular Giving programme to drive acquisition, retention and upgrades. Strategically work with the Fundraising Director and Regular Giving Specialist to develop and build the next significant growth phase of a regular giving programme that triples monthly donors and income by 2030. Oversee the implementation and delivery of an expanding multi‑channel Regular Giving programme. 6. Community Fundraising and Retail Integration Strategically develop AMCS’ community fundraising programme to build engagement, relationships and income pipeline. Oversee the Retail programme to plan and deliver the organisational shop, and drive as a financial supporter acquisition channel, fundraising‑linked promotions and supporter conversion initiatives. Ensure these activities contribute to sustainable, long‑term income growth. 7. Donor Care, Retention and Experience Lead donor care and stewardship programmes that enhance satisfaction and retention. Deliver tailored communications and engagement to achieve high second‑gift rates and retention goals for new donors. Use data insights to identify trends, guide retention strategies and improve donor lifetime value. Ensure all supporter interactions reflect AMCS’s values of respect, integrity and transparency. 8. Governance, Compliance and Accountability Ensure all fundraising activities comply with legislation, ethical standards and the FIA Code of Conduct. Maintain accurate and compliant donor data within AMCS’s CRM system. Assist with managing portfolio budgets, ensuring strong ROI and responsible financial management. Monitor, assess and report on fundraising income, expenditure and risk to the Fundraising Director and senior leadership. 9. Innovation and Organisational Growth Champion innovation and continuous improvement in fundraising strategy and delivery. Identify new audiences, products and channels to diversify and future‑prove AMCS’s income base. Position AMCS as a leader in ethical, data‑informed and supporter‑focused fundraising. Selection Criteria 1. Leadership and People Management At least 5 years’ experience leading fundraising, marketing or engagement teams. Proven ability to mentor, motivate and manage high‑performing individuals and teams through growth and change. Strong interpersonal and communication skills with a collaborative leadership approach. Tertiary qualifications in fundraising, marketing, communications, business or related fields, or equivalent experience. 2. Fundraising Strategy and Delivery Demonstrated track record of designing and delivering multi‑channel fundraising programmes with measurable results. Experience in donor acquisition, regular giving, appeals and/or digital fundraising. Passion and track record in sustainable fundraising programme development and income growth. Proven ability to align fundraising initiatives with organisational strategy and values. 3. Supporter Engagement and Retention Strong understanding of supporter journeys, donor retention and stewardship principles. Experience applying CRM systems and data analysis to inform fundraising strategy. Demonstrated capacity to deliver exceptional supporter experiences that increase engagement and loyalty. 4. Governance, Ethics and Accountability Sound understanding of the FIA Code of Conduct and fundraising legislation. Experience in financial management, budgeting, reporting and compliance. Commitment to ethical fundraising, transparency and accountability. 5. Organisational Contribution and Collaboration Demonstrated ability to integrate fundraising with communications and campaign or mission activity. Experience contributing to organisational strategy and culture in a not‑for‑profit context. Strong problem‑solving skills and adaptability in complex environments. 6.
