Overview SMEC Cairns is part of a global network delivering infrastructure and multidisciplinary engineering services. We are seeking a Principal Civil Engineer with proven experience in major infrastructure projects across the transport sector. This is a permanent opportunity based in our Cairns office. Role You will develop and lead project teams to identify, win and deliver projects to a consistently high standard of timeliness and quality, in line with the business plan. Responsibilities Lead and manage projects in road and highway design and project management. Provide competent management and business development skills (e.g., industry profiling, sourcing new clients, securing repeat work from existing clients) to expand Roads & Highways capabilities in the region. Drive client relationships, win new work, and contribute to the ongoing activities of a leading multi-disciplinary engineering consultancy. Qualifications Degree qualified – Bachelor of Engineering (Civil Engineering or similar) Min 15 years’ commercial experience and knowledge of the Queensland market Understanding of business, organisational, and marketing context of business solutions Demonstrated ability to deliver on client terms of reference within budget and timelines Project management experience across administrative, commercial and technical aspects Experience managing engineering projects >$1m to budget and client specifications Experience coordinating, designing and delivering roads and highways within multi-disciplinary projects Ability to submit and finalise technical reports to a standard requiring minimal correction Able to undertake some travel (domestic or international) Benefits and About SMEC SMEC provides opportunities to work on iconic industry projects with experienced colleagues and leadership, supporting employees to drive innovation within a growing organisation.
