City of Melbourne, Österreich Craig Family Centre Vollzeit

Volunteer Opportunity: Homework Club Tutor Location: Craig Family Centre, Ashburton Session Time: Wednesdays, 4:00 pm – 5:30 pm (during school terms) Time Commitment: 1.5 hours per week (plus optional planning and training) About the Role Do you enjoy supporting children in their learning, building their confidence, and helping them thrive at school? The Craig Family Centre is seeking enthusiastic volunteers to join our Homework Club team as tutors. Our Homework Club supports primary‑school aged children from Ashburton and the broader Boroondara community, many of whom benefit from extra learning support. The program combines game‑based numeracy and literacy activities, one‑on‑one homework help, and a friendly social environment that makes learning fun. As a tutor you won't just help with homework; you'll also contribute to lesson planning, work alongside other dedicated volunteers, and play a key role in creating a positive, supportive learning space. This is a great opportunity for people who are passionate about education, enjoy working with children, or are considering careers in teaching, youth work, or community development. What the Sessions Involve Welcome & Check‑in (5‑10 min): Building trust and connection through introductions or warm‑up games Focused Learning (30‑40 min): One‑on‑one homework support or small group activities in literacy and numeracy Game‑Based Learning (20 min): Fun, educational games designed to build confidence and reinforce school skills Wrap‑Up (10 min): Reflection circle, positive feedback, and preparing children for the week ahead You’ll work with the same children regularly, allowing you to build supportive relationships and witness their growth over time. Please note; classes are flexible and responsive to child needs, so sometimes might change slightly. Tips for Tutors Be encouraging and patient; confidence is as important as the homework itself. Use games and creativity to make learning fun. Work collaboratively with other tutors. Remember, it's about supporting the child's growth, not getting every answer right. Key Responsibilities Provide one‑on‑one or small group homework support for primary school children. Assist in delivering structured literacy and numeracy activities. Contribute to creating a safe, welcoming, and positive learning environment. Collaborate with staff and other tutors to reflect on sessions and improve the program. Skills & Experience (desirable but not essential) Enjoy working with children and supporting their learning. Confidence to help with primary‑level literacy and numeracy. Patience, empathy, and good communication skills. Interest in education, tutoring, youth work, or community programs. Previous experience in tutoring, teaching, or mentoring (optional training can be provided). About the Craig Family Centre The Craig Family Centre is a long‑standing community organisation in Ashburton that supports wellbeing, creativity, learning, and social connection. We provide: A structured program and lesson plans. Training opportunities. Ongoing support. A friendly, collaborative team environment. Why Volunteer With Us? Make a real difference in the lives of young people. Gain practical tutoring and facilitation experience. Build valuable skills for future work in education or community services. Be part of a supportive, like‑minded team. Share your knowledge and see childrens confidence grow. All tutors must complete a Working With Children Check and the Victorian Government Child Safety Modules (with our support). Teenagers aged 15+ are welcome to apply. Category Education & Training Commitment Regular – more than 6 months Type Of Work Education & Training, Tutoring & Coaching Time Required Tutors commit to 1.5 hours per week on Wednesdays, 4:00‑5:30 pm during school terms. We ask volunteers to join for at least one term (8–10 weeks) to ensure consistency for the children. Occasional absences with notice are fine, and there are optional opportunities to take part in planning, training, and reflection sessions. This role is designed to fit alongside work or study while making a real difference. Training Training opportunities occur throughout the year for providing education to people learning English and other tutoring education opportunities. Be careful – Don’t provide your bank or credit card details when applying for jobs. Don't transfer any money or complete suspicious online surveys. If you see something suspicious, report this job ad. #J-18808-Ljbffr
