About the Role Full-time position with immediate start Primary surgical assistant for two days per week One day per week seeing new patients side by side with direct supervision Two dedicated days for research, with guaranteed academic output Opportunity for additional paid overtime covering evening and weekend ward shifts at a private hospital Why This Role? Exposure to 500+ orthopaedic cases per year Guaranteed 2+ research publications and 2-4 conference presentations Direct mentorship from a highly experienced orthopaedic surgeon Ideal for aspiring orthopaedic trainees, providing the clinical, surgical, and research experience needed to stand out in training applications About the Surgeon The successful applicant will work alongside Dr. Elix, a Queensland-trained and fellowship-trained orthopaedic surgeon with over 16 years of specialist experience. Dr. Elix performs a high volume of arthroplasty, sports, and upper limb surgeries, providing broad exposure to orthopaedics without any gaps. This role offers hands‑on training in a well‑rounded orthopaedic practice. Requirements Australian‑trained medical graduate Successful completion of intern year General medical registration with AHPRA References from prior employment demonstrating clinical competence and professionalism What’s on Offer Paid leave & superannuation Work in a private hospital setting in Hervey Bay, Queensland Support in building technical skills, clinical decision‑making, and research credentials Remuneration: Starting at Queensland Health Level 1 RMO wages (approximately $104,000 per annum) , with negotiation for more experienced candidates.
