Marine Scientist Location: Melbourne, VIC We have an exciting opportunity for a Graduate or Early Career Coastal Engineer or Marine Scientist to join our Oceans and Environmental team based in Melbourne. What You Will Be Involved In Play an active role in projects that may include: Offshore renewable energy developments Port development and dredging impact studies and port and harbour developments and decommissioning Oil spill risk assessments and monitoring Wastewater discharge studies Marine mammal, fish, benthic and seabird surveys Environmental impact and risk assessments Water quality and sediment transport studies Project approvals such as referrals under the Commonwealth Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act (EPBC Act) and Victorian Environment Effects Act (EE Act), management plans for the Offshore Infrastructure Regulator (OIR) and NOPSEMA and Victorian Marine and Coastal Act consent applications. Assisting with project management of small to medium projects, including budgets, schedules, invoicing and client liaison Participating in field work, including vessel-based activities, diving and marine and seabird surveys Contributing to high-quality technical reports and documentation Collaborating with RPS and Tetra Tech specialists across disciplines including marine ecology, coastal engineering, health and safety and communications Training and development in advanced modelling techniques to support a wide range of applications, and opportunities to build project management skills About You A degree in a relevant engineering or marine science discipline Recent graduates or early career scientists and engineers with 0‑4 years’ experience in a similar role Sound theoretical and practical understanding of oceanography, coastal or marine science, seabird and shorebird or other marine ecology Strong teamwork and communication skills, with the ability to write clearly and confidently Attention to detail and ability to manage competing priorities in a fast‑paced environment Experience with Matlab, Python or GIS software is advantageous What You’ll Get From Us Competitive salary and flexible, hybrid work arrangements Annual professional membership reimbursement Paid parental and partner leave $250 active lifestyle allowance per annum Additional annual leave purchase scheme and salary packaging options Professional and technical development programs, including study assistance, online learning and mentoring Active office social events, employee assistance program, service recognition and more We are proud to be an equal opportunity employer.
