Antenna & Radiated Systems Engineer A high-technology defence organisation is seeking an Antenna & Radiated Systems Engineer to take technical ownership of antenna architecture and radiated performance across its next-generation RF sensing and effectors portfolio. This role sits within the Sensors & Effectors division, contributing core RF design expertise to modular platforms used across man-portable, vehicle-mounted, and fixed-site systems. The successful candidate will lead antenna concept development, 3D EM simulation, test methodology, manufacturing integration, and radiated optimisation. They will also play a key role in shaping future hardware architectures, ensuring wideband performance, isolation, and efficiency remain industry‑leading in demanding electronic warfare environments. Key Responsibilities Lead antenna design, simulation, optimisation, and validation using 3D electromagnetic modelling (CST preferred). Define antenna requirements for new systems and influence next‑generation hardware architecture. Characterise radiated performance, develop test methods, and drive improvements in over‑the‑air measurement capability. Collaborate with mechanical engineering to deliver manufacturable antenna structures that meet performance and environmental constraints. Support hardware teams with EM simulation services, trade studies, and integration guidance. Manage antenna development from concept through manufacturing, including DFM and QA considerations. Drive root‑cause analysis for radiated‑performance issues and contribute to system‑level mitigation strategies. Engage external antenna vendors and manage technical interactions. Develop guidelines for antenna placement, isolation strategies, and deployment considerations across varied operational scenarios. Optimise product radiated performance to maximise range, minimise interference, and improve reliability across wide bandwidths. Stay abreast of emerging drone, RF, and EW technologies to ensure system effectiveness against evolving threats. Contribute to measurement infrastructure, chamber capability, and radiated test processes. Essential Skills & Experience Degree in Electronics Engineering or related field (Master’s or PhD in electromagnetics preferred). 10+ years’ experience in antenna design for complex RF systems (EW or anti‑drone systems advantageous). Expertise in 3D EM simulation (CST strongly preferred; HFSS acceptable). Proven antenna development experience from concept to production. Strong knowledge of RF propagation and radiated system behaviour. Proficiency with RF test equipment (VNAs, spectrum analysers, signal generators, power amplifiers). Experience with antenna characterisation and test‑site methodologies. Understanding of high‑power antenna design and supporting structures. Experience with DFM and manufacturing constraints for antenna hardware. Familiarity with radiated chambers (use, maintenance, or procurement). Desirable Skills & Experience Experience with wideband directional or omnidirectional antenna structures. Knowledge of antenna miniaturisation and near/far‑field isolation techniques. Hands‑on experience assembling antenna prototypes. Exposure to cavity filters, multiplexers, and RF front‑end components. Experience with SCH/PCB design tools (Altium) and RF PCB layout best practices. Familiarity with RF simulation tools (Microwave Office, ADS). RF systems engineering: link budgets, cascade analysis, transceiver DSP blocks. Experience defining RF module specifications and leading smaller technical teams.
