About The Role BMA is Australia’s largest producer and supplier of seaborne metallurgical coal and is owned 50:50 by BHP and Mitsubishi Development. BMA operates five Bowen Basin mines and owns and operates the Hay Point Coal Terminal near Mackay. We have an exciting and unique career opportunity for a seasoned mining leader to join as the General Manager Goonyella Riverside and participate as a key member of the Asset Leadership Team with a focus on creating an inclusive culture, optimizing productivity and securing a long‑life future for BMA. Responsibilities Deliver a safe system of work to protect the health & safety of people and the environment in accordance with statutory and BHP requirements. Create a culture in which engagement, inclusion and diversity thrive, so that everyone is motivated and supported to realise their full potential. Develop operating performance targets together with plans that demonstrate how these will be achieved through the Corporate Alignment Planning (CAP) processes. Lead business acumen and understand capital management, and collaborate with other operations in BMA to ensure capital is managed and prioritised for the optimal return on investment. Engage in continuous improvement through the disciplined application of the BHP Operating System, and its standards, processes, systems and structures. Drive and promote cost efficiency and productivity improvements and identify and solve problems in a collaborative manner. Ensure cross‑functional integration through building trustful relationships, influencing and collaborating to deliver safe performance and improve productivity. Maintain a performance management system to monitor and control the availability utilisation rate to provide a stable operation, whilst striving for zero breakdowns and unplanned downtime through proactive defect elimination and lifecycle asset management. Safeguard and enhance the standing and reputation of BHP especially to our host communities. About You As a seasoned leader in the resources sector, you have an extensive background in open‑cut mining operations and possess strong technical knowledge in geology, geotechnical and mining operations. At least 5 years experience in the Queensland Coal industry is required, along with a Senior Site Executive Qualification (QLD). However, for the right person we will support you in obtaining this qualification. You have exposure to mining or infrastructure projects in execution phase, as well as a good understanding of the maintenance of mobile equipment. As a significant portion of the load & haul function is autonomous at Goonyella Riverside, experience in Automated Haulage would be advantageous. You are a strategic thinker with strong commercial abilities, able to focus and prioritise critical deliverables to provide clear direction and engage with stakeholders to drive performance through operating discipline to achieve outstanding results. Your communication, listening and influencing skills are first‑class, and you are at ease working with a range of stakeholders from regulators, senior executives to front‑line operations, and can work within a matrix organisation.
