Program Overview Acknowledgement of Country CSIRO acknowledges the Traditional Owners of the land, sea and waters across Australia. We pay our respects to their Elders past and present. The Indigenous Career Explorer Program in Mineral Resources is a paid casual pilot pathway for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples to explore careers in minerals and science. It offers hands‑on experience in mineral processing, laboratory analysis, sensing, sorting, and environmental research, along with cultural, well‑being and professional support. Role Details Location: Brisbane or Townsville region QLD; Kensington, WA; Sydney, NSW Salary: AU$28.62 – AU$38.29 per hour, plus 25% casual loading and 15.4% superannuation. Duration: 12 months (casual contract) Reference: Day‑to‑Day Responsibilities Prepare samples (rock, ore, soil, water) for testing. Assist with practical lab tasks such as crushing, grinding, separating minerals and trial work. Operate lab machines and tools to measure samples and record results accurately. Maintain lab safety and efficiency by setting up, cleaning, and checking equipment. Eligibility & Requirements Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander peoples with Australian citizenship. Basic education background or early work experience (school leaver, VET, university, community experience). Curiosity about science and a willingness to learn by doing. Physical capability to perform lab tasks, including lifting, bending, walking and repetitive movements. Willingness to follow health and safety instructions and learn to use equipment safely. Team‑working skills and ability to follow day‑to‑day direction from researchers and technicians. Basic computer skills (Word, Outlook, Excel) or willingness to learn quickly.
