Advanced Clinical Pharmacist - HPB Surgery Closing date is 20 November 2025 Do you love surgery? Are you driven to develop a new surgical specialty role within the pharmacy team? A fantastic opportunity has arisen at CUH to join the pharmacy team as an Advanced Clinical Pharmacist for hepato-pancreato-biliary (HPB) Surgery. As the Regional Referral Centre for HPB, and the third largest centre in the country, we provide high level expertise for all benign and malignant diseases of the liver, pancreas, and biliary system to patients across the East of England. Main duties of the job For this new role, we are looking for a proactive, self‑motivated individual with excellent organisational skills who can work effectively under pressure, both alone and as part of the wider pharmacy and multidisciplinary team. You will be responsible for leading the HPB pharmacy service provision at CUH, representing the specialty in inpatient and outpatient settings. The role is based at Addenbrooke's Hospital in Cambridge where you will work as part of the wider HPB MDT, providing expert pharmaceutical knowledge and high level input to the management of HPB patients in the peri‑operative period. The post holder will utilise prescribing skills to optimise medications, champion antimicrobial stewardship in complex surgical patients and lead on the development of safer prescribing practices within the HPB team. You will be supported by the Lead Pharmacist for Surgery to develop this service, and represent pharmacy at HPB Governance. In addition, you will also work within the pharmacy team to provide education to trainees, junior pharmacists and the wider MDT. Person Specification Qualifications Masters level degree in pharmacy Registered as a pharmacist with General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC) Diploma in Clinical Pharmacy/General Pharmacy Practice (or equivalent) Train the trainer course (or equivalent) MSc in Clinical Pharmacy (or equivalent) Registered as an independent prescriber with the GPhC. Member of Royal Pharmaceutical Society Member of the faculty of the Royal Pharmaceutical Society (or working towards) at Advanced Stage II Diploma or MEd in medical education (or equivalent) Experience Recent significant post‑registration experience including prescription screening, medicines reconciliation and medicines information Recent significant experience of patient consultation Experienced clinical pharmacist at band 7 or band 8a who has covered a range of specialities including the designated specialist clinical area Experience of documenting pharmaceutical care issues in medical notes Experience of writing professional reports Experience of writing drug policies and treatment guidelines Experience of developing and reviewing patient group directions and shared care guidelines Evidence of having conducted and implemented the outcomes of a clinical audit Experience of the practical application of antimicrobial stewardship initiatives Experience of the management of highcost and high-risk medicines. 11. Experience as a personal tutor to a range of staff groups Experience of developing and leading on projects including change management and service development Experience of designing training materials for a range of healthcare professionals Experience of delivering training for a range of healthcare professionals Recent significant post‑registration hospital experience, ideally including previous experience in a teaching hospital and experience of more than one hospital Recent practical experience of independent prescribing for a designated group of patients Experienced clinical pharmacist (at band 8a or 8b) including one or more of the following: surgery, neurosciences, critical care, transplant, medicines information, acute and emergence medicine Evidence of having written pharmaceutical and/or educational publications Experience of drug expenditure analysis and reporting Experience of publishing and following up on the outcomes of pharmacy audit or practice research Experience of horizon scanning Knowledge Advanced clinical knowledge of drugs and therapeutic trends within designated specialist clinical area Knowledge of NICE, Health Education England (HEE), NHS Improvement (NPSA) guidance and their local implementation Knowledge of UK healthcare systems and NHS changes Computer literate with experience of Word, Powerpoint and Excel Familiar with the design and use of a range of visual aids for teaching. Knowedge of pharmacy computer systems Knowledge of electronic prescribing IT systems Knowledge of electronic prescribing and medicines administration IT systems Familiar with the design and use of e‑learning materials Familiar with the design of educational mobile applications Skills Demonstrate expert professional practice defined within the Royal Pharmaceutical Society Advanced Pharmacy Framework: Expert Professional Practice cluster at the level of Advanced Stage II.
