Senior Public Affairs Officer Employer: Cairns Regional Council Salary Range: $86, $90, per annum Position Type: Full Time Permanent Location: Council Chambers, Spence Street, Cairns Application Close Date: Sunday, 1 June, 5:00 pm AEST About the Role Join our Strategic Communications & Engagement team to shape how Council connects with the community and stakeholders. As a Senior Public Affairs Officer you will contribute to public affairs activities and help shape strategies that maintain and enhance Council's position with the community and stakeholders. What You Will Do Manage traditional and social media content and engagement to strengthen Council’s connection with the community; monitor community sentiment; develop and manage media releases and responses; translate complex information into publicly accessible content; build and maintain relationships with the public, elected members, media, management and staff. What We Are Looking For Tertiary qualifications in journalism, communications, public relations or a similar field, with experience in a similar role. Demonstrated communication capability and the ability to translate complex information into publicly accessible content. Good knowledge of public affairs, media communications and stakeholder engagement disciplines. Understanding of the local government context and working environment. Strong working knowledge of social media and digital platforms. Experience managing media releases and responses. Strong written and verbal communication skills, including content development capabilities. Ability to relate well to the public, elected members, media, management and staff.
