Power and Propulsion Engineer – BAE Systems Australia About The Opportunity We are looking for a Power and Propulsion Engineer to join our Hunter Class Frigate Program based at Osborne Naval Shipyard, SA, reporting to the Engineering Manager – Power and Propulsion. You will work as part of a team responsible for various power and propulsion systems, gaining specialist knowledge and ultimately becoming the go‑to person for system enquiries. Stakeholder engagement is critical. You will liaise with suppliers, including UK/European contacts, to manage the execution of products and ensure they meet requirements for the ship. Key Responsibilities Participate in developing, maintaining and modifying engineering processes and procedures in assigned areas in response to technical developments and operational needs. Identify areas of the Reference Ship Design (RSD) power and propulsion system design and installation that may be affected by the transfer of build from Glasgow, UK to Adelaide, SA, and assist with the development of any resulting product changes for the Hunter Class. Under some technical supervision, undertake functional design and provide advice and qualification for the scope of responsibility; provide evidence for acceptance, fitness for purpose, regulatory & legislative requirements and safety. Liaise with internal and external stakeholders to ensure their requirements are adequately supported and fully considered where appropriate and agreed. About You Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering (ideal) or Aeronautical, Electrical or Mechatronic Engineering. Demonstrated experience working in an engineering capacity; maritime or power and propulsion experience (shaft lines, propellers, diesel generators, etc.) is highly advantageous. Strong problem‑solving skills to work through complex issues. Self‑motivation and a proactive approach to progressing all assigned tasks. Strong communication and stakeholder management skills. Ability to collaborate effectively with designers, production, suppliers and other engineers. A current NV1 clearance or eligibility to obtain one. Eligibility to be cleared for International Traffic in Arms (ITAR) regulations. Flexibility & Work Arrangements We embrace flexible work arrangements, including a 9‑day fortnight and/or hybrid working. Please note the role will require some after‑hours calls with suppliers in the UK and Europe.
