Chief Information Officer (CIO) – Audit Office of New South Wales Location: Sydney, New South Wales, Australia Employment type: Contract Overview The Audit Office of New South Wales is an independent integrity agency, committed to holding government accountable. This six‑month fixed‑term contract reports to the Executive Director, Corporate, Experience and Strategy, leading the information technology team. Key Responsibilities Develop and implement an information technology strategy aligned with the Office’s corporate strategy. Ensure IT services, infrastructure and systems meet business needs and comply with legislative and policy requirements. Support the Executive Director with change‑management strategies related to information technology. Actively manage and address critical events so that IT systems, capabilities and services are not disrupted or compromised. Advocate IT solutions that support delivery of the Corporate Plan. Effectively manage the performance of the Information Services team to achieve the Office’s vision, mission, values, goals and strategies. Maintain the integrity of the Information Security Management System (ISMS) and ensure confidentiality, security and availability of all data and information. Ensure the ISMS remains accredited and the Office remains compliant with the NSW Cyber Security Policy. Drive implementation work required to meet the Australian Cyber Security Centre (ACSC) Essential 8 targets. Deliver IT projects on time, within cost and quality requirements. Drive continuous improvement of business operations and champion new ways of working. Deliver specific corporate / team objectives as agreed to achieve the Office’s strategic aims. Ensure compliance with the Office Code of Conduct, internal policies, records management and health & safety policies. What you will need to succeed (Qualifications) Tertiary qualification in Business, Information Technology or Information Systems. Deep industry and technical knowledge of digital transformation practices. Proven track record of developing and executing long‑term IT strategies while meeting short‑term business requirements. Experience developing and implementing disaster‑recovery and cyber‑security plans and strategies. Experience with Amazon Web Services platform. Experience with Microsoft tools including M365, device management and cyber‑related tooling. Preferred experience with an IT governance framework (ISO, NIST or NSW Cyber Security Policy). Australian permanent resident, Australian citizen or New Zealand citizen. Successful police and formal qualifications checks.
