What you'll be doing Reporting to the Engineering Director, you’ll be responsible for: Designing, building and maintaining native Android applications in Kotlin using modern Android patterns (Jetpack, Coroutines/Flows, clean architecture, MVVM/MVI). Leading end‑to‑end mobile features – from technical discovery and solution design through implementation, testing and release, to monitoring and iteration based on real user feedback. Collaborating closely with Product, UX/UI, QA, Backend and DevOps to translate product ideas into well‑architected mobile solutions that fit into our wider platform and domain. Owning the Android release pipeline – contributing to and managing CI/CD workflows, signing and configuration, build optimisation, and orchestrating releases through Google Play (and App Store where needed). Integrating with and shaping our backend APIs, and where appropriate building APIs in Kotlin or other web technologies. Promoting code quality best practices, including unit, integration, UI testing, code review, static analysis and modern testing frameworks. Proactively managing performance, stability and observability using tools such as Crashlytics, logging, metrics and tracing. Contributing to shared mobile components, design systems and patterns (including React Native or shared libraries) for consistency across product lines. Diagnosing and resolving production issues, participating in incident response and root‑cause analysis. Mentoring and pairing with squad engineers, sharing Android best practices, reviewing designs and PRs, and fostering a culture of learning. Senior Android Engineer with deep experience in Kotlin and native Android development, comfortable owning complex features from idea to production. Strong knowledge of the Android ecosystem: Android SDK, Jetpack, Coroutines/Flows, dependency injection, offline‑first patterns, and modern architecture. Experience shipping and maintaining apps at scale via Google Play – managing build variants, signing, staged rollouts, feature flags and A/B experiments. Solid understanding of RESTful APIs and backend integration; ideally experience building or contributing to APIs in Kotlin (Spring Boot) or other backend/web technologies. Good grasp of mobile CI/CD tooling (Bitrise, GitHub Actions, CircleCI, Fastlane, Gradle) and automation of build, test and release pipelines for Android and iOS. Strong focus on security and data protection – secure storage, authentication tokens, PII protection and OWASP Mobile best practices. Excellent collaboration skills – cross‑functionally with Product, Design, QA, Architecture and DevOps; comfortable contributing to technical planning, estimation and roadmap discussions. Leadership in engineering quality – championing testing, code review, observability and tackling technical debt as a regular part of delivery. Nice to have: experience with Swift/iOS, React Native or other cross‑platform frameworks, and familiarity with web front‑end tools (TypeScript, React). Bonus: experience in SaaS, B2B or domain‑rich environments (property, fintech, logistics) where reliability, security and usability are critical. What your impact and success looks like In the early stages of your career with us, we expect you to achieve: Within 1 month Get up to speed on our products, domain and users. Set up your local environment, CI/CD access, learn branching and release processes, and ship your first small change to production under guidance. Pair with other engineers to understand our Android architecture, shared components and coding standards. Contribute to code reviews within your squad, focusing on quality and maintainability. Shadow on‑call and incident response for mobile‑related issues. Within 3 months Own a medium‑sized feature or improvement in the Android app – designing, coordinating with backend and delivering to customers. Lead improvements to an area of our mobile stack (navigation, networking, state management, testing). Enhance our mobile CI/CD pipeline – improving build times, test reliability and release workflows for Google Play (and iOS where relevant). Increase test coverage and observability for critical features. Mentor mid‑level and junior engineers through pairing and structured feedback. Within 6 months Be recognized as a key technical leader for mobile across squads, making sound technical decisions. Lead cross‑team initiatives such as a design system refresh, major performance/reliability push or a shared module used across Android, iOS and React Native. Drive measurable improvements in mobile quality and delivery metrics. Embed strong security and compliance practices into the mobile development lifecycle. Shape engineering culture – refine standards, run brown‑bags and share lessons from incidents and deliveries.
