Bushcare Volunteer - Camperdown Cemetery - # Camperdown Cemetery is home to one of the last remaining remnants of the Sydney Turpentine Ironbark Forest (STIF) plant community within the Inner West – a critically endangered plant community. Surviving species have remained here by chance and have been nurtured and cared for since they were identified by botanists from the Royal Botanic Gardens in the late 90s. You will work with an experienced Bushcare Supervisor and Ecologist to mitigate threats to the grasslands survival. Invasive species, human impact and climate change all threaten this ecological community. Join our Volunteer group to help preserve this significant part of ecological history. Tools, training and morning tea is provided. Please bring appropriate clothing to work outdoors. Bushcare at Camperdown Cemetery runs once a month, alternating between the 3rd Thursday and 3rd Saturday. A list of dates will be sent out to new volunteers. Benefits Work under the guidance of trained professionals that specialise in plant identification, bush regeneration and ecosystem management. You will gain skills in weed removal, species ID and land management and botany. You will learn to identify species within the endangered STIF community and learn about the native plants that grow in your own neighbourhood. Bushcare is a great opportunity to meet likeminded people and make friends all while giving back to the community.
