Where you'll be working Royal North Shore Hospital, NSLHD PARVAN Service What you'll be doing NSLHD Prevention and Response to Violence Abuse  Neglect (PARVAN) Sexual Assault Service provides a 24 hour / 7day per week integrated psychosocial, medical and forensic service to adults and young people who present following concern about sexual assault and who live or work within the Northern Sydney Local Health District. NSLHD PARVAN Service will also undertake a phased approach to the provision of integrated psychosocial, medical and forensic services to those who have experienced Domestic and Family Violence (DFV). The purpose of the Violence Abuse & Neglect Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) position is to provide senior nursing clinical leadership in the development of specialist clinical practice and service delivery within NSLHD PARVAN Sexual Assault Service. The Violence Abuse & Neglect CNS employs advanced clinical skills and exercises extended autonomy of decision-making working closely with managers and other senior clinicians. The Violence Abuse & Neglect CNS functions under the guidance of the PARVAN Adult Clinical Medical Lead and the PARVAN Sexual Assault Service Manager in the integrated psychosocial, medical and forensic management of victims of sexual assault (aged 14 years and older). The Violence Abuse & Neglect CNS may, on occasion, be required to assist PARVAN Sexual Assault Service Medical staff in the integrated psychosocial, medical and forensic management (e.g. act as examination assistant) of children aged 13 years and younger and be involved in the clinical service provision for victims of domestic family violence. The Violence Abuse & Neglect CNS functions as part of the PARVAN Sexual Assault Service team and will participate in the 24 hour / 7 day per week on-call roster, regular team meetings, quality improvement activities, administrative tasks, research and education delivery as appropriate. The Violence Abuse & Neglect CNS is expected to follow protocols established by the NSW Ministry of Health as outlined in PD _006 Responding to Sexual Assault (Adult and Child) Policy and Procedures. The Violence Abuse & Neglect CNS will work in partnership with PARVAN colleagues, other NSW Health staff, NSW Police Service and the judicial system to ensure the provision of the highest quality culturally safe integrated health care, forensic documentation and evidence collection for patients presenting with concerns of sexual assault. People of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander background encouraged to apply. Candidates will need to meet the following criteria: Current registration as Registered Nurse and relevant post registration qualification and 3 years postgraduate experience working in the clinical area of the postgraduate qualification or such other qualifications or relevant equivalent experience. Demonstrated NSW Health Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner accreditation or extensive clinical nursing experience and a willingness to undergo formal training, assessment and supervision such as the ECAV Graduate Certificate in Medical and Forensic Management of Sexual assault, within 12 months of employment. The ability to work in a clinical environment with patients who have experienced Violence, Abuse and Neglect, and who may present as highly distressed, and to provide high quality trauma informed culturally safe care. Highly developed clinical skills in patient assessment and care planning with demonstrated ability to provide a referral service as required. Excellent written and verbal communication skills and interpersonal skills enabling collaborative work with colleagues, other health professionals and individuals to provide safe and effective care. Demonstrated ability to use computer based clinical information systems (including the use of electronic medical records) and a commitment to ongoing professional development.
