The Department of Families, Seniors, Disability Services and Child Safety is dedicated to creating a brighter future for Queensland’s most vulnerable. Working in child safety involves attending high‑risk calls and confronting challenging situations; resilience and strong self‑care practices are essential. You will work with diverse children and families facing many different challenges, often in high‑risk situations such as domestic and family violence, complex mental health issues, substance use, and suicide. As a Cultural Practice Advisor, you will support people, partners and places to enable Queenslanders, especially the most vulnerable, to be safe and thrive. Based in Kippa‑Ring, you will work on community partnerships that preserve cultural connections for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and help them achieve positive life outcomes. Your Responsibilities Effectively and positively engage with children, families, carers and service providers to support cultural needs and achieve case‑plan goals. Deliver individualised, high‑quality and culturally appropriate casework support, child protection intervention and referrals. Collaborate with key stakeholders, including families and Recognised Entities, to establish and strengthen effective safety and support networks, including connections to extended family, community, country and culture. Share your cultural advice, knowledge of communities and awareness of culturally significant processes and events to strengthen workforce cultural capability. Your Mandatory Requirements This position is a genuine occupational requirement for an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander person. (Anti‑Discrimination Act 1991) Must hold a current Blue Card (Working with Children clearance issued by Blue Card Services) before commencing employment. Must be able to undertake travel and possess a current “C” class driver licence. We Would Also Love You To Have An understanding of the historical and contemporary issues that impact Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures, and the ability to recognise and articulate the interests of these peoples. Flexibility to adapt and respond quickly when situations change, with willingness to re‑prioritise work regularly to achieve set goals. A comprehensive understanding of varying stakeholder needs, along with effective written and verbal communication skills to tailor messages appropriately. How You’ll Be Assessed The department will consider your demonstrated knowledge, skills and experience relevant to the key responsibilities, personal attributes, and potential contributions to equity and diversity objectives. The role is an individual contributor within the Queensland Public Service Leadership Competencies for Queensland (LCQ) framework.
