We employ, develop and support teachers, leaders and other staff to deliver the best outcomes for students and to advance the wellbeing of Aboriginal people. About the Role School Learning Support Officers provide support for students with identified diverse learning needs, including disability, in classrooms and other learning environments under the direction and supervision of a teacher. This support includes student welfare, health and wellbeing activities as required. Officers may also provide specific support for students in pre‑school, vision support, hearing support and bilingual settings. Officers in these settings have additional duties in addition to the general duties for School Learning Support Officers. Essential Requirements Working with Children Check clearance Completion of mandatory training required by the Department of Education and willingness to undertake first aid training relevant to the role Administration of medications – training to be provided based on student needs Health support training to be provided based on student needs (subject to transition provisions) Lake Illawarra High School Lake Illawarra High School is a comprehensive high school situated on the shores of Lake Illawarra on the traditional lands of the Wadi Wadi people. In 2025, the school has a mainstream enrolment of 500 students, with approximately 25 % identifying as Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander. It also hosts an Inclusive Education Centre, a special education unit catering for 74 students, with one IM class, two MC classes, two Autism classes and four Intensive Learning Support Mental Health classes. The school delivers an extensive curriculum and many extracurricular opportunities and collaborates with feeder primary schools and the community through the Lake Learning Community.
