Join a high-performing digital team in a leading scientific government agency as a Senior Software Engineer. You’ll help design, build and optimise modern cloud-native applications that support critical national geoscience capabilities, working with technologies like Angular, AWS and Python in an agile, highly collaborative environment. Location: Canberra, ACT (Hybrid – at least 3 days on-site per week) Contract Duration: January 2026 to 30 June 2026, with two 12-month extension options Security Clearance Requirement: Ability to obtain an Australian Government security clearance Closing Date: 10:00am Friday 28 November 2025 Key Responsibilities (Essential Tasks) Design, develop and maintain robust, efficient and reusable software components for digital products used by government, industry and the public Provide expert technical advice and guidance to developers, scientists and other stakeholders on best-practice software engineering Design and implement scalable infrastructure and software solutions across cloud environments (primarily AWS) to support complex digital platforms Contribute to a culture of continuous improvement, automation, security, observability and user-focused delivery within an agile, NoOps-aligned team Key Skills & Experience (Key Criteria) Strong commercial experience in Angular, AWS and Python, delivering production-grade applications and services Proven experience building and supporting modern digital products, ideally across multiple applications or platforms Experience working in agile delivery teams, with a focus on collaboration, quality engineering practices and continuous improvement Excellent communication skills, with the ability to work closely with scientists, business stakeholders and technical peers How to Apply Does this role sound perfect for you?
