First Nations Caseworker – Permanency Support Program (Out of Home Care) Full-time (35 hours/week) contract, based in Dubbo with travel across Western NSW. Contract until July 2026 (likely extension). About the Role As a First Nations Caseworker, you’ll be a key figure in a child’s life—supporting their safety, story and cultural identity. You’ll coordinate care for Aboriginal children and young people in out-of-home care, focusing on permanency, cultural connection and healing. You manage your own schedule, planning work based on the needs of children, families and carers, including home and informal visits, appointments and family time. You liaise with carers and birth families, ensuring children stay connected with their broader mob. Responsibilities Develop and review case plans and risk assessments. Support family time and build strong, culturally respectful relationships with birth families and extended kin. Work toward guardianship outcomes where appropriate. Collaborate with the clinical team on behaviour support planning. Navigate placement breakdowns and source culturally safe alternative placements. Draw on community connections and cultural knowledge to keep children close to their families, Country and culture. Manage a caseload of up to 12 children (depending on complexity). Complete a range of administrative and compliance tasks to ensure quality care and protection for each child. About You Identified Aboriginal position – only Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people eligible (Section 14(d) of the Anti‑Discrimination Act 1977, NSW). Passionate about keeping Aboriginal children safe while helping them maintain lifelong connections to family, mob and culture. Thrives when working independently, planning your schedule and connecting with families face‑to‑face. Confident working through complex family situations, including trauma and placement changes. Strong communicator who listens deeply, speaks with heart and walks alongside people with respect. Holder of a current driver’s licence and ready to travel across Western NSW.
