Overview Head of Department – Infectious Diseases — $216,300 – $484,000+ p.a. | Leadership | Teaching & Research | Relocation Assistance The Opportunity Launceston General Hospital (LGH), Tasmania's second largest hospital, is seeking an experienced Specialist Infectious Diseases Physician to join our growing team. This role can be appointed as Head of Department – Infectious Diseases & Staff Specialist, or purely as a Staff Specialist Infectious Diseases Physician. For suitably qualified candidates, the position may also include a minor Microbiology component. This is a rare chance to combine clinical leadership, teaching, and research in a highly collaborative environment, while enjoying the lifestyle benefits of Northern Tasmania. Your Role Lead the Antibiotic Stewardship Program. Provide high-quality inpatient and outpatient Infectious Diseases (ID) care across Northern Tasmania. Participate in critical care ID rounds (twice weekly) and provide specialist advice to other inpatient units. Drive research, quality improvement initiatives, and patient safety projects. Contribute to undergraduate and postgraduate teaching, with strong ties to the University of Tasmania Medical School. Optional: incorporate Clinical Microbiology duties. What We’re Looking For Fellowship training in Infectious Diseases (FRACP ID or equivalent). Demonstrated leadership in clinical and / or academic settings. Strong communication and collaboration skills across multidisciplinary teams. Commitment to teaching, mentoring, and continuous professional development. Why Launceston? What We Offer Salary: $216,300 – $310,389 p.a. (Specialist Medical Practitioner Level 1–Senior Specialist Level 3) + Super (12%) Packages starting at $484,000 p.a. (Senior Specialist Level 9+) Salary packaging options: up to $9,010 (living expenses) + $2,650 (meals / entertainment) Private Practice Scheme (35%) or allowance equivalent Fully maintained private vehicle or $28,786 allowance Continuing Professional Development Allowance $16,974 p.a.
