Role The Assistant Principal reports directly to the Principal. Assistant Principals manage significant areas within a school to ensure effective development, provision and evaluation of the school's education program. They contribute to overall management through policy formulation and decision making. At Bendigo Senior Secondary College (BSSC), they have authority to make decisions relating to the program, budget and staff within the framework of the college strategic plan, policies and budget. Assistant Principals are core members of the Leadership Team and Extended Leadership Team, working with the Principal in a specific role to ensure policies and programs are developed and implemented to maximise student learning opportunities, with a whole school perspective in a high performance environment. Assistant Principals demonstrate exemplary values and attitudes, building and maintaining effective teams and cooperative working relationships that promote excellence in teaching and learning and effective communication with all community members and stakeholders. Responsibilities The core responsibilities of the Assistant Principal (Wellbeing and Inclusion) include but are not limited to: 1. Strategic Direction Provide strategic leadership to the Student Engagement Team. In collaboration with Assistant Principals for Student Engagement, lead the implementation of AIP and BEP strategic priorities. Convene meetings of the Student Engagement Team. 2. Student Wellbeing Design and implement a comprehensive wellbeing education program. Support the Student Engagement Team to implement consistent and high quality engagement and wellbeing practice across the college. Analyse student data to inform wellbeing policy and practice. Lead the Wellbeing Team to provide high level wellbeing support to students. Lead various Inclusion and Wellbeing Programs, such as the BSSC Ally model, Inclusion Ambassadors and Respectful Relationships. Manage the college’s First Aid process and Anaphylaxis compliance. Together with the Principal, as Child Safe Standards Officers, ensure that all Child Safety Standards compliance is being met. Share in the development, implementation and review of various policies pertaining to engagement and wellbeing. Represent the college on various community groups relating to student wellbeing. 3. Staff Wellbeing Convene the Staff Wellbeing Action Group with support from the HR Coordinator. Support the development of activities to build the capacity of staff to be agents in managing their own wellbeing. Provide wellbeing advice for staff through the Wellbeing Team and/or external referral. 4. Inclusion Lead the college’s approach to Disability Inclusion. Lead the college Disability and Inclusion team and work with other leaders to design and deliver whole college professional learning. Monitor the implementation of key actions and support the Curriculum and Learning Team to implement consistent and high quality teaching and learning practice encompassing evidence-based approaches to Disability Inclusion across the college. Oversee programs and support for students funded for disabilities. 5. Shared responsibilities including Contribute to the college Leadership Team. Share in the design and implementation of the Performance and Development Program.Report to College Council as required. Model college values for all members of the college community.
