About the Opportunity We have a great opportunity for a Safety Engineer to join our Hunter Class Frigate Program. This role will report to the Product Safety Manager and involves ensuring corporate governance, legal and customer requirements are met from a System Safety perspective. Responsibilities Coordinate system safety activities within assigned projects, communicating hazards, mitigation strategies and review results internally and externally. Prepare internal and external reports on each project’s system safety to support reviews and Safety Working Groups. Lead determination of safety requirements affecting material and component suppliers and vendors, recommending approval or rejection of vendor/supplier safety documentation. Maintain each project’s Hazard Log and supporting documentation. Stay current with best practices in safety engineering within BAE Systems, Australia, Defence and Industry. Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in engineering desirable but not essential. Experience undertaking safety engineering programmes based on standards such as MIL‑STD‑882. Demonstrated experience executing safety programmes in a large organisation or programme as a Safety Engineer. Experience creating safety cases and hazard logs. Initiative and self‑motivation. Excellent communication skills, liaising verbally and in writing with stakeholders. Background in a Defence or Maritime setting advantageous. Current NV1 Clearance or eligibility to obtain.
