School Overview Northern School for Autism is a Victorian State Government specialist school addressing the educational needs of students with autism aged 5 to 18 years. Established in 2006, the school operates across two campuses – Reservoir (Early and Middle Years) and Lalor (Later Years) – and coordinates a satellite program at Norris Bank Primary School. School Structure Early Years 5‑8 years Middle Years 9‑14 years Later Years 15‑18 years Pedagogical Philosophy Manage themselves as individuals in relation to others Understand the world in which they live Act effectively in that world Teaching & Learning The school implements a student‑centred approach, building on individual strengths and providing a curriculum that integrates AusVELS and, in Later Years, an Applied Learning Program. Structured teaching, inclusion‑friendly strategies and a School‑wide Positive Behaviour Support framework underpin instruction, with emphasis on social skills, self‑regulation, and lifelong learning. Individual Learning Plans & Student Support Group Meetings Individual Learning Plans are developed with parents, teachers, and support staff, reviewed at termly Student Support Group meetings, and recorded electronically via the ABLES system. Applicants without experience must be willing to take a high level of direction, complete induction and professional development, and develop the required skills. Selection Criteria High‑level experience in inclusive education practice, training staff, and developing observation & feedback processes. Experience planning, implementing, and evaluating evidence‑based interventions for students with disabilities. Ability to develop, implement, and evaluate teaching strategies for diverse learning needs. Explicit advice on monitoring student achievement, supporting staff, and engaging parents. Strong communication, networking and interpersonal skills. Leadership and coaching that influences education staff and supports children and young people. Role Inclusion Outreach Coaches partner with specialist and mainstream schools, guiding leadership and staff to implement inclusive practices through data‑based decision making and a multi‑tiered system of supports. Coaches deliver demonstration lessons, mentor, and facilitate school‑based professional learning. Responsibilities Model high‑quality teaching practice and inclusive education values. Provide explicit coaching support on best practice for inclusive classrooms. Assist school leadership in using data to embed inclusive adjustments. Implement professional learning and support program design and monitoring. Model effective inclusive practices and support teacher feedback analysis. Provide leadership and professional learning to school leaders and teachers. Maintain professional competence through ongoing learning. Engage in Inclusion Outreach Communities of Practice. Collect and analyse implementation data and liaise with regional coordinators. Additional Area Responsibilities Coaching staff to identify and respond to school needs. Deliver both in‑reach and outreach support across school settings. Analyse data to monitor and report impact. Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams. Maintain connectedness and support within specialist school (one day per week). Details: coach specialist classrooms, attend specialist meetings, embed inclusive practices. Who May Apply Required Currently hold or be eligible for registration with the Victorian Institute of Teaching and qualified to teach in the specified curriculum area(s). Desirable Graduate or postgraduate qualification in special/inclusive education and/or disability. Experience across various school settings. Demonstrated inclusive education experience. Experience working with students with disabilities and diverse learning needs. Other Relevant Information Current driver’s licence mandatory; private transport required. Successful applicants subject to satisfactory criminal record check.
