Data Centre Manager

Role Overview The Data Centre Manager is responsible for the oversight, coordination, and governance of the data centre, a high-security Defence-aligned facility. This role ensures operational continuity, security, and compliance of all data centre activities while coordinating contractors, supporting incident response, and maintaining alignment with Defence requirements and ITIL practices. Although hands‑on racking and stacking is performed by operational staff, the role requires strong technical understanding, situational awareness, and the ability to oversee multiple stakeholders including Defence partners, contractors, and operations teams across multiple sites. This is one of the first contracts delivered under a Defence subcontracting arrangement for the company, making the role central to maintaining strong client partnership and operational credibility. Primary Responsibilities Data Centre Operations Serve as the Data Centre Manager overseeing daily operations of a 40‑rack Defence-aligned data centre. Monitor the data centre environment using DCIM tools, including rack‑level temperature and power, cooling systems (chillers, pumps), power infrastructure (generators, UPS), environmental controls and alerts. Act as the central coordination point for all data centre‑related incidents, respond to and support 24/7 incident management and escalation processes. Oversee patch management activities and provide support to the customer. Ensure all maintenance activities are completed, verified, and compliant with Defence and site security requirements. Manage data centre security and access control, including escorting personnel during incidents or emergencies. Maintain accurate asset records (racks, hardware, equipment) within DCIM systems. Collaborate with tower delivery teams and contribute to change management processes. Coordinate and supervise third‑party suppliers to meet operational and project deliverables. Ensure adherence to ITIL frameworks across data centre operations. Maintain awareness of evolving data centre facility management best practices. Oversight Across Multiple Sites Provide governance and operational consistency across smaller data centre and edge environments. Ensure Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) are followed across all supported sites. Support remote teams that may perform daily operational activities, including capacity reporting and environmental checks. Manage relationships with partners, including facilities, client organisations, and competing providers operating within Defence contexts. Role Context Temporary 6‑month position covering extended leave. Requires strong stakeholder management, operational discipline, and familiarity with Defence compliance frameworks. Oversight role rather than hands‑on installation work (IMAC performed by operational staff). High‑security environment with mandatory NV1 / NV2 clearance due to site access requirements. Required Skills & Experience Essential NV1 or NV2 security clearance (current and valid). Experience working with Defence, either directly or within Defence industry. Strong IT, facilities management, or Defence operational background. Ability to understand and influence data centre operations including power, cooling, ICT hardware, and environmental management. Understanding of networking concepts and communications over copper and fibre. Ability to interpret technical information, manage incidents, and coordinate cross‑functional responses. Strong stakeholder coordination skills, including managing contractors and verifying compliance. Ability to travel as required. Willingness to work flexible and on‑call hours. Desirable Experience with DCIM tools for monitoring and asset management. Familiarity with ITIL practices. Experience in high‑security or mission‑critical operational environments.
