Department of Agriculture and Fisheries NT – Darwin NT Professional 3 – Remuneration Package $130,663 - $146,130 (including salary $110,873 - $124,173) Biosecurity and Animal Welfare Darwin, Northern TerritoryFull time ongoing appointment Support animal biosecurity in the NT by delivering National Association of Testing Authorities accredited veterinary pathology diagnostic services. The Department of Agriculture and Fisheries (DAF) has a long history of supporting agricultural producers in the Northern Territory. DAF underpins the Territory’s reputation for safe and quality agricultural produce through scientific research, strong biosecurity practices and compliance with animal welfare legislation. Situated within DAF, the Berrimah Veterinary Laboratory (BVL) tests for diseases of production animals and aquaculture species for diagnostic, surveillance, regulatory, research, export and exotic disease exclusion purposes. The laboratory also provides a fee‑for‑service testing service for companion animals, performance animals, aviary birds and native fauna. BVL is NATA accredited in Veterinary Testing (ISO 17025) for anatomical pathology, histopathology, bacteriology, serology, molecular and virology. As a Veterinary Pathologist, your primary objective is to provide expert advice in the delivery of NATA‑accredited veterinary pathology services to support animal biosecurity, disease control and prevention in the Northern Territory. Conduct veterinary necropsy, histopathology and cytology examinations Supervise technicians Support research programs relevant to animal health issues Ensure compliance with NATA guidelines To be successful you require tertiary qualifications in Veterinary Science or Veterinary Medicine suitable for registration as a veterinarian in the Northern Territory, have completed a relevant post‑graduate qualification and have extensive experience in veterinary science and diagnostic pathology. Well‑developed communication, interpersonal and diplomatic skills, and the ability to consult and build partnerships with a wide range of stakeholders is essential. In return, you will receive a competitive salary, 12% superannuation, six weeks’ recreation and three weeks’ personal leave, an additional 3 days paid leave over the Christmas shutdown and up to 17.5% annual leave loading.
