Location: Melbourne, Sydney or Canberra Salary: $152,074 – $168,164 + 15.4% super Employment: Permanent, Full‑time Applications close: 11:59 pm AEDT, 12 December 2025 Team The Litigation & Public Law team sits within ASIC's Corporate Legal Services business unit in the Legal Services Group. The team advises on claims made against ASIC, governance issues under the ASIC Act, public governance and related legislation, and a range of other public law matters including ASIC delegations and authorisations. It works closely with colleagues who advise on commercial and information‑management legal issues. Role As a Senior Lawyer you will provide expert legal advice on public law issues, manage litigation and claims against ASIC, and support senior internal stakeholders. You will also prepare reports, monitor regulatory changes, and supervise junior team members to ensure high‑quality outputs. Deliver expert legal advice and tactical guidance related to responding to legal and other claims against ASIC, its members, and staff, including negligence, defamation and breach of statutory duties. Advise on public law issues relevant to ASIC's operations, including delegations, decision‑making, official duties, remuneration tribunal matters, conflicts of interest, public interest disclosures and procedural fairness. Prepare internal reports and briefings concerning key matters and projects. Provide sound, practical, and timely legal advice on matters affecting ASIC's obligations as a public regulatory body. Monitor the regulatory landscape to analyse reforms, legislative changes and trends. Mentor, guide and supervise other team members to ensure high‑quality outcomes. Undertake additional responsibilities or tasks as required. Model the values of accountability, professionalism and teamwork. About You You will demonstrate strong technical legal capabilities, excellent communication, organisational and stakeholder‑management skills. You are proactive, accountable and thrive in a fast‑paced environment. Technical Requirements & Certifications Hold legal qualifications and be eligible for an unrestricted legal practising certificate in an Australian State or Territory. Minimum 6 + years post‑admission experience as a lawyer with relevant expertise in government, in‑house or law‑firm settings. Demonstrated understanding of the PGPA Act, ASIC Act, Public Interest Disclosure Act and other relevant legislation and policies. Experience in governance and compliance is highly desirable. Additional Desirable Requirements Ability to work independently and take accountability for outcomes. Strong legal writing and verbal communication skills, with experience presenting complex information to varied audiences. Advanced legal technical and analytical skills in the relevant areas of law. Excellent organisational and time‑management skills; proven ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines. Client‑service focus, with experience managing diverse stakeholders and building productive relationships. Proven ability to prepare internal reports and briefings on key matters and projects.
