Job Title: Systems Development Engineer – Region Services (Cloud Operations) Our Region Services team transforms how AWS designs, builds, and operates regions to deliver new cloud infrastructure and services to customers across industries and sizes, from startups to enterprises and public sector organizations. Are you ready to redefine what’s possible in the cloud? Key job responsibilities Apply advanced troubleshooting techniques to deliver unique solutions to customer needs. Collaborate with engineers and partner with other AWS teams to reproduce and resolve issues. Leverage your extensive Linux expertise to provide feedback to AWS teams on service improvement. Drive service‑team communication during critical events and enhance support‑related processes. Write tutorials, how‑to videos, and technical articles for the developer community. Work on critical, highly complex problems spanning multiple AWS services. Coach/mentor new hires, develop and present training, partner with development teams on complex issues, and participate in hiring and process improvement initiatives. Occasionally participate in on‑call rotations to resolve out‑of‑hours incidents. Must hold or be able to attain an Australian Government Security Vetting Agency clearance. A day in the life As a Linux‑focused technical support engineer in the cloud, you’ll solve internal operational issues, review dashboards, manage change system updates, author run‑books for new services, train new engineers, and utilize internal AI systems for diagnosis. You’ll also engage in on‑call rotations as required. About The Team Region Services builds and operates new global regions, deploying foundational services such as Amazon S3 and EC2, and supporting customers requiring advanced security solutions. As part of the team, you’ll contribute to Compute, Database, Storage, Platform, and Productivity Apps services across AWS regions. Basic Qualifications 5+ years of support engineering or system administration experience on Linux or Unix systems. Proficiency with scripting languages such as Bash, Python, C, C++, Java, or Ruby. Deep understanding of scalable computing systems. Experience in highly distributed virtual environments, networking, software build, and deployment processes. Preferred Qualifications Experience troubleshooting and debugging technical systems. Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in a technical field. Understanding of cloud computing concepts and architectures. Solid grasp of networking fundamentals, including load balancers, switches, routers. Familiarity with efficient operations and failure‑mode analysis in large, complex distributed systems.
