Clinical Lead for Children and Young People Gender Service Cambridge University Hospitals Foundation Trust (CUH) is seeking a highly skilled and compassionate individual to join the new NHS Children and Young People's Gender Service (East of England) as Clinical Lead. Based within the Department of Paediatrics, the successful applicant will have extensive experience delivering high quality, evidence-based care to children, young people and families. The post holder will provide clinical leadership, supervision and clinical expertise to a multi-disciplinary team. The Cass Review into gender services for children and young people recommends staff maintain a broad clinical perspective by working across related NHS services. We therefore encourage part-time applications from staff already working in other services and can negotiate a job plan that includes a mix of gender service activity and activity in another clinical area. The service operates Monday‑Friday. Full or part‑time (minimum 30 hours per week) is considered. This position will be based between Addenbrookes and the Gender Services building in Newmarket. Closing date: 02 December 2025 Main Duties of the Job Lead on the development, recruitment and onboarding of a multidisciplinary clinical service to the NHS Children and Young People's Gender Service (East of England) and provide complex clinical input and leadership, both directly and indirectly. Contribute to the development of data and reporting to evidence the quality and safety of the activity delivered by this service for NHS England, the National Provider Collaborative, The National MDT, the Clinical Director, Lead Clinicians, General Managers, Trust Executives and Commissioners. Work collaboratively with the MTD Senior Leadership Team to ensure the set‑up of a high quality, effective, and efficient service. Ensure recruitment of the necessary skill mix and professions and develop that service in line with research evidence and national guidance. Ensure systematic provision of a high‑quality specialist psychological service to all children and adolescents referred to the service. Plan and inform the Director of Operations on the execution and fiscal management of the overall psychological service budget and have active involvement in its formulation, ensuring resources are deployed effectively and in line with the NHSE Gender Service Contract. Eligibility for Chartered Membership of BPS. Post‑graduate doctoral level training in clinical psychology (or equivalent) accredited by the BPS, including at least two distinct psychological therapies and lifespan developmental psychology. Membership of HCPC. Eligibility for membership of the Division of Clinical Psychology. Post‑doctoral training and recorded CPD experience or further qualifications in additional specialised areas of psychological practice. Experience in neuropsychological testing, specific clinical populations, management, psychological treatment and interventions. Recognised expert status in a specific area of psychological practice. Experience in managing a psychology service. Formal training in supervision of other psychologists. Experience of a paediatric psychology service. Formal training in management of clinical professional services. Qualification in Psychology Management or Leadership. Experience Minimum six years qualifying as a clinical psychologist, including at least three years post‑qualification within the designated specialty. Experience working with a wide variety of client groups across the life course and clinical severity in multiple settings. Ability to maintain professionalism in emotive and distressing situations, verbal or physical. Experience exercising full clinical responsibility for clients' psychological care and treatment within multidisciplinary plans. Experience teaching, training and/or professional and clinical supervision. Experience managing qualified and pre‑qualified clinical psychologists and other psychological professionals. Experience representing the profession in local policy fora. Experience applying psychology in different cultural contexts. Experience in multi‑professional management of teams or services. Knowledge Doctoral level knowledge of clinical psychology, with lifespan developmental psychology and multiple therapies. Highly developed knowledge of specialised psychological therapies in paediatric specialties. Skills in complex psychological assessment, intervention, and management. Strong written and oral communication of complex, sensitive information to clients, families, and professionals. Skills in providing consultation to other professional groups. Doctoral level knowledge of research design and methodology. Knowledge of legislation and its implications for clinical practice and management. Evidence of continuing professional development as recommended by the BPS. Knowledge of Gender Services. Skills Deliver psychological services and strategic planning. Identify and provide support to carers and staff exposed to distressing situations. Communicate complex/sensitive information empathetically. Deal with hostility and complex clinical communication. Experience working within a multicultural framework. Apply clinical governance mechanisms for support and maintenance of practice. Develop and use complex multi‑media materials for presentations. Publish in peer‑reviewed journals or books. Interpret the role of clinical psychology within government and professional policy. Interest in models of service delivery and adding value to multidisciplinary services. Commitment to service evaluation and audit. Strong leadership and management skills. Analytical and judgment skills for complex decisions. Assessment skills for patients, relatives, and contexts. Manage organisational stress for self and others. Evidence of productive multi‑disciplinary teamwork. Test equipment use and formal restrain training. Organised, enthusiastic, creative and innovative.
