Banyule City Council is seeking an enthusiastic Assistant Arborist to help ensure the prosperity, health, and safety of our urban forest using best‑practice arboricultural techniques. You’ll play a vital role in supporting our tree crew and delivering high‑quality service to both internal and external clients. What You’ll Do Assist qualified Arborists with tree pruning, removals, planting and general tree maintenance across Council’s parks and streetscapes. Safely operate and maintain tools, machinery and vehicles to support high‑quality arboricultural outcomes. Contribute to a positive team culture focused on urban tree health, community safety, and sustainable open space management. Remove trees and shrubs and conduct pruning and arboricultural operations in a safe and efficient manner with due regard for all relevant standards. Fell trees in all types of situations using climbing and mechanical systems. Carry out all facets of pruning within current standards. Who and what we are looking for (skills and experience) Certificate II in ESI – Powerline Vegetation Control (or currently enrolled). Medium Rigid Truck Licence or demonstration of working towards. Knowledge of plant nomenclature and plant cultural requirements. Chainsaw Operation ticket. Experience with Chipper Operation. Demonstrated practical experience in Arboriculture or an associated discipline is essential. Basic oral and written communication skills that enable communication with the public and in the resolution of minor problems. Ability to work effectively in a team. Demonstrated commitment to our values. Pre‑employment Requirements Certificate II in ESI – Powerline Vegetation Control (or currently enrolled). Medium Rigid Drivers Licence (or working towards). Chainsaw Operation ticket. What We Offer A permanent full‑time position with a fortnightly RDO. Salary $72,703.49 per annum plus super. 26 weeks of paid parental leave (primary carer) / 4 weeks of paid parental leave (partner).
