An exciting opportunity for an advanced practice nurse to coordinate, triage, refer and manage patients within the NSLHD National Lung Cancer Screening Program. This position is a permanent full time Nurse Practitioner (NP) or Transitional Nurse Practitioner (TNP) role and will be responsible for management of lung nodules referrals across the NSLHD. Where you'll be working This is a district wide position, coordinating the National Lung Cancer Screening program within the NSLHD. The position is primarily located within the Respiratory Department at Royal North Shore Hospital. What you'll be doing The Nurse Practitioner/ Transitional Nurse Practitioner (NP/TNP) is a registered nurse educated and authorised to function autonomously and collaboratively in an advanced and extended clinical role. The NP/TNP role includes the assessment and management of patients using nursing knowledge and skills and may include but is not limited to the initiation of diagnostic investigations, prescribing medications and direct referral of patients to other health care providers. The NP/TNP role is grounded in the nursing profession’s values, knowledge, theories and practice and provides innovative and flexible health care delivery that complements other health care providers. People of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander background are encouraged to apply. Qualifications Registered Authorised Nurse Practitioner with APHRA that has completed the tertiary requirements including a Master Degree (Nurse Practitioner) or Registered Nurse working in a Transitional Position towards endorsement as a Nurse Practitioner and is currently enrolled in a Tertiary Masters Program for Nurse Practitioner, with a scope of practice in respiratory/lung cancer. Minimum of 5,000 hours of advanced nursing/midwifery practice during the last six years appropriate to the specialty area (or working towards within the next 3 years). Demonstrated capacity to integrate the principles of clinical governance, quality improvement, evidence-based practice, patient centred care and practice development into the delivery of advanced nursing practice. Demonstrated capacity to delivery advance nursing practice in the field of respiratory medicine and cancer screening to independently assess, investigation and implement appropriate care or referral to medical practitioners within advanced nursing practice guidelines. Demonstrated experience as a clinical leader with commitment to ongoing development of safe clinical practice to an advanced level. Demonstrated ability to function autonomously and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team. Demonstrated effective high-level communication and negotiation skills.
