Residential Care Worker - Non-Family Based Care (Cairns) This role is based in our Non-Family Based Care (NFBC) Team where you will directly provide care, support, supervision and guidance to children and young people who have been placed in our 24/7 residential or Supported Independent Living Service under statutory orders. You will maintain living arrangements that are stable, safe, nurturing, trauma informed, affirming of culture, connected to community and provide age and stage appropriate risk assessed recreational / educative / skill building activities and development opportunities. You will help each person navigate their journey ‘into, through and out of’ placement, ensuring their voice is central while encouraging self-regulation, positive group interactions and respectful negotiations. You will fulfil shift duties, complete administrative tasks, undertake practical household jobs, and assist children and young people to achieve Support Plan goals. To Be Successful You Will Need Minimum Mandatory Qualification as per the Minimum Qualification standards (MQS) for Residential Care Workers in QLD. Where a current qualification is not held, enrolment in the Certificate IV in Child, Youth and Family Intervention is mandatory. Evidence of enrolment must be provided before commencing, and the qualification must be completed within the originally approved study timeframe. Demonstrated record of successfully engaging with children and young people who have experienced trauma and serious adverse childhood experiences along with an understanding of the child safety system, statutory orders and the role of residential care. Capacity to encourage emotional regulation and healing through positive behaviour strategies and relational, culturally safe and trauma informed approaches in the care, supervision and development of children and young people. Sound knowledge of child and adolescent development and commitment to ensuring children and young people are respected, involved in decision making and supported to engage in learning and development opportunities. Demonstrated skills in implementing Support Plans, liaising with service providers and stakeholders, the ability to follow through on commitments, close out actions and a willingness to provide practical assistance to children and young people. Ability (and willingness) to complete shift duties, household tasks and grounds maintenance; shop, cook and share healthy meals and to maintain a welcoming, safe and inclusive homelike environment. Experience in risk assessment, crisis management, incident reporting and skills in navigating solutions to challenges that may arise within 24/ 7 residential settings. Demonstrated administrative, data entry, computer and report writing skills and ability to learn new systems and data bases. Track record of strong Teamwork, collaborative practice and ability to follow through on agreed support and routines. Experience working with First Nations people, families, Organisations and communities.
