Australian Pork Limited (APL) is the producer-owned peak body of the Australian pork industry. APL's purpose is to enable a thriving pork industry for all, and it delivers on its purpose through the integrated work of Research, Marketing and Policy. Engaging with a range of audiences, from pig farmers to pork consumers, APL proactively pursues opportunities to strengthen the supply-side and demand-side drivers of Australian pork consumption. Explore the Opportunity Due to internal promotion, an opportunity has become available for an Extension Manager to join the Research, Innovation and Extension team. Your role will be to lead the Extension team in engaging with the Australian pork industry and other relevant stakeholders, to help identify priority areas and maximise the adoption of research, innovation, policy and other best practice outcomes and initiatives. Key Responsibilities Manage the delivery of extension project activities for the Australian pork industry, within budget and scheduled timeframes. Engage with industry and visit key stakeholders across the pork supply chain. Develop systems and processes that support the coordinated and effective delivery of Australian pork industry research and innovation activities. Work with APL teams, research partners and stakeholders to deliver high-quality, fit‑for‑purpose extension projects, plans for adoption and support resources to effectively communicate key findings of research projects and other APL information. Represent APL and/or industry interests in relevant cross‑commodity committees and groups. Provide feedback to APL on challenges, opportunities and interests to enhance the research, innovation and extension program and assist with the annual ‘Green Paper’ research process. Act as Secretariat for APL committees and other groups, as required. Assist in the organisation and execution of industry and other APL supported events. Provide day‑to‑day leadership to direct reports, creating a positive culture that is results focused and in line with APL values. Role model APL values and contribute to a positive team environment. Required Qualifications and Experience A PhD (preferred) in Animal Production/Science/Veterinary Science, or equivalent experience. Experience working in and a strong understanding of the livestock industry (pork industry preferred). Demonstrated 5+ years’ experience in a similar role. Demonstrated experience in extension and stakeholder engagement. Demonstrated research programme and project management skills. Capability and willingness to interact and contribute as a member of a team. Highly developed facilitation, presentation, and communication skills. Additional Attributes A willingness to work in and contribute to a tight team environment. A positive can‑do attitude with a hunger for learning. Exceptional organisation skills and attention to detail. A flexible approach to managing the day‑to‑day requirements of the role. Location and Hours This is a full‑time role and is based in one of our APL offices (Canberra or Sydney). However, we are open to the role being based remotely if you live outside these areas.
