Principal - Governance, Risk Management, Compliance & Legal at JS Careers Location: Sydney Employment Type: Permanent About the Opportunity JS Careers has been exclusively engaged by a leading global financial institution to identify an experienced Operational Risk professional to join its first line of defence within the Markets and Trading Division . This role plays a key part in partnering with trading and support functions to ensure that operational risks are effectively managed, monitored, and continuously improved across processes, controls, and risk culture. The position is based in Sydney, with in-office attendance required three to four days per week. The Role As the Futures lead across the financial markets’ Operational Risk function, you will apply your deep understanding of derivatives and futures markets to advise on the end-to-end risk and control environment across a dynamic trading business. You will partner closely with senior business stakeholders and risk teams to proactively identify, assess, and mitigate operational risks – supporting the development of robust control frameworks and contributing to a culture of continuous improvement. Key Responsibilities Providing expert advice on operational risk management across futures and derivatives trading businesses. Developing a deep understanding of business processes and identifying key risk exposures. Assessing new products, initiatives, and changes to ensure appropriate risk governance. Leading and managing assurance projects to test control effectiveness. Partnering with senior stakeholders to strengthen the overall risk and control environment. Investigating incidents and driving remediation and lessons learned. What You'll Bring Extensive experience in non-financial risk management supporting derivatives and/or futures trading environments. Strong analytical, problem-solving, and resilience skills. A continuous improvement mindset , with the ability to balance commercial and risk perspectives. Proven stakeholder engagement and influencing capability across business and risk functions. Experience managing assurance or control testing programs.
