Role responsibilities To lead on the auditing of external suppliers. Ensuring their compliance with legal and TFW standards and accurately recording this information. Developing and maintaining a process for the periodic review of operator compliance as well as completing ad hoc reviews / audits both in person and remotely. Lead the development of a structured supplier audit programme, working collaboratively with internal stakeholders to design a planned schedule of assessments across the operator pool. Deliver and maintain the supplier audit process on an ongoing basis, conducting scheduled, risk-based, for-cause, and ad hoc audits to monitor compliance and service quality. Plan and conduct site visits to TfW-appointed Rail Replacement Operators to assess compliance with key SLAs and support the delivery of high-quality customer service. Engage directly with operators and stakeholders in the field, completing audits face-to-face, remotely, or on-site, providing clear feedback and supporting the implementation of corrective actions. This includes travel across the TfW network and occasional weekend working. Work collaboratively with operators, ensuring a shared understanding of audit outcomes and required actions, and proactively supporting them to embed best practice and raise operational standards. Act as the internal subject matter expert (SME) for all matters related to road transport compliance, providing advice, insight, and guidance to colleagues across TfW. Collaborate with the TfW Safety Team to ensure audit activities align with safety policies, procedures, and expectations—supporting a ‘One TfW’ approach to operational assurance and continuous improvement. Monitor changes in legislation and regulation within the bus and coach industry, ensuring the audit process remains current and informing relevant teams across TfW of any implications. Analyse audit findings and trends, producing regular reports and dashboards that highlight areas of risk, recurring issues, and opportunities for improvement to inform decision-making across the road transport function. Support internal knowledge sharing, contributing to the development and delivery of training or briefing sessions to communicate compliance expectations, audit insights, and best practices. Contribute to the development and optimisation of digital tools and systems used to manage audit processes, records, and reporting, ensuring they are fit for purpose and user-friendly. Work with the Risk and Assurance team to ensure audit findings are reflected in organisational risk registers where appropriate, and that mitigation actions are tracked and followed up. Who we’re looking for Experience working in an Audit related field Experience working in the transport industry, ideally in the bus sector A detailed understanding of Health and Safety regulations within the workplace and also within the operations field Analyses and Innovations – able to use available knowledge and locate / extract data to define, recommend and implement workable solutions to audit issues that may arise Ability to manage interaction and relationships between external and internal stakeholders on compliance issues Ability to plan, organise, implement and deliver audits with our suppliers Understanding of Road Transport Operations / Fleet Management Understanding of Road Transport Regulations (drivers’ hours, etc.) Experience conducting Audits (Internal / External) Welsh Language Skills The ability to speak / write Welsh would make a great addition to your application, but it is not essential for this role.
