Victorian Aboriginal Legal Service – Geelong VIC Koorie Youth Council The Koorie Youth Council (KYC) is the representative body for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander young people in Victoria. Guided by an Executive of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander young people and our state-wide members, KYC values the diversity and strength of young people as decision-makers. KYC advocates to government and community to advance the rights and representation of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander young people. By hosting events like the annual Koorie Youth Summit, KYC brings Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander young people together to amplify their voices for social change. About the Role This role is ideal for someone who thrives in community settings, enjoys collaborating with young people, and wants to be part of systemic change. As the Youth Engagement Lead, you will: Bring Aboriginal young people together to share their voices, ideas and leadership. Strengthen young people's confidence, cultural connection, and skills through workshops and regional programs. Build and maintain respected partnerships with ACCOs and community organisations across the Barwon South-West. Create youth-led spaces and events that celebrate culture, amplify community voice, and influence policy. Be part of a supportive, passionate team committed to community-led practice and cultural safety. Key Responsibilities Build strong, respectful partnerships with stakeholders across the Barwon South-West Region. Work closely with KYC's Programs, Policy and Communications teams to maintain strong information flow and collaborative practice. Design and deliver workshops that support young people to build confidence, cultural strength and problem-solving skills. Lead and support community capacity-building activities that strengthen youth engagement across the region. Coordinate and deliver youth-led regional events such as Koorie Connections Day. About You Strong understanding of the Victorian Aboriginal community, including strengths, challenges and issues affecting young people. Experience in the youth and/or community sector. Understanding of youth participation frameworks. Confident in facilitating groups, workshops or forums. Ability to build trust, rapport and partnerships with community members and services. Willingness to frequently travel throughout the region and state. Understanding of child safety standards and ethical engagement with young people.
