Raise strives to empower young minds through early intervention mentoring, equipping young people with lifelong skills for a brighter future but we cant do it without volunteer mentors. As experts in our field, well train you for success before matching you with a mentee. Youll then be the key to transforming that young persons life so they can face a brighter future. Ongoing evaluation shows that mentoring transforms lives for mentees and mentors. Mentees are supported to improve their mental health via help seeking skills, improve their confidence, resilience and sense of belonging. Mentors report significant positive benefits as well in communication skill development, connection to their community, sense of purpose and more. Minimum requirements Over the age of 21 (if studying in a relevant field minimum age is 20). Can commit to volunteering with Raise and being available for up to 2 hours per week for the duration of the program (up to 20 weeks). Understands that the volunteer role takes place on the same day and time each week, excluding school holidays. Can complete the compulsory training and provide (or apply for) a National Police check and Working with Children Check. Understands this is an unpaid role. Category Mentoring & Advocacy Commitment Regular - more than 6 months Type Of Work Companionship & Social Support Time Required The mentoring position requires volunteers to set aside up to 2 hours per week for the duration of the program. In‑school programs are 20 weeks and run from April to September (excluding school holidays). Depending on what school you decide to mentor in, they will determine the day and time the program will run, so it will be consistent throughout the programs duration. You can find a full list of our program locations, days and time on our website; Training We offer free training to give you the skills you need to mentor a young person. Our training consists of 8 online training modules (approximately 4 hours of self‑paced learning) and a virtual or face‑to‑face group mentor training session.
