Principal House Officer (General Surgery), Queensland Health Ready to fast-track your surgical career? Step into a high-exposure role where you’ll build real capability across General Surgery, while strengthening skills in cardiology and advanced life support in one of Central Queensland’s busiest referral hospitals. As a Principal House Officer, you’ll work closely with staff specialists to deliver high-quality surgical care, support visiting Urology services, manage patients end-to-end, and take part in an active on‑call roster. Rockhampton Hospital offers accredited training, strong supervision, research opportunities, and hands‑on experience across a 305+ bed facility serving a broad regional population. If you’re a motivated junior doctor with current ACLS and a desire to level up fast, this 12-month contract is your chance to sharpen your skills. About us: Rockhampton Hospital is a 305‑bed facility and is the main referral hospital for Central Queensland, now providing integrated cancer care services in Central Queensland in the newly established building boasting state‑of‑the‑art medical equipment. The other primary hospitals within the health service are Gladstone, Emerald, Yeppoon and Biloela together with many smaller rural units transfer patients through to Rockhampton for specialist care and investigation. About the role: The Registrar/Principal House Officer assists the staff specialists and senior medical staff in the management of General Surgery services and surgeries to patients in Central Queensland. They will also be responsible for supporting our visiting Urology team. They will have duties as part of the General Surgery registrar on‑call roster. About you: MBBS or equivalent to enable registration as a Medical Practitioner with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) at Level 3 supervision. If qualifications were obtained outside of Australia, the candidate must be eligible for registration with AHPRA with Level 3 supervision and provide the following: Evidence of successful completion of IELTS or equivalent English Language Test results within the last year. Evidence of successful completion of AMC MCQ (Part 1) Examination. Evidence of recency of clinical practice, supported by current references. Current Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Life Support (ALS) certification is required. What we offer: Salary information: Total remuneration value of up to $169,389 p.a. is comprised of: A salary rate between $134,489 - $147,585 p.a.
