Join to apply for the Information Security Specialist role at NSW Department of Customer Service Pay Range: A$113,574.00/yr - A$125,720.00/yr Role: Information Security SpecialistLocation: Sydney CBD, hybrid working options availableEmployment Type: Temporary, full‑time until December 2026Department: Digital NSW – Government Technology Platforms (GTP) About the Team This is an exciting opportunity to work within Government Technology Platforms to perform Security Risk Assessments on new and existing applications and solutions delivered to the whole of NSW government. The role will operate and further improve the Risk Assessment framework and processes used to assess all solutions within GTP. You will provide guidance to stakeholders in line with industry best practices, internal policies, and standards, and collaborate with different product teams to ensure security is considered during the design, build and delivery of customer‑centric solutions. Key Responsibilities Collaborate with Product Owners to understand solution design, integrations, and data flows. Provide technical security guidance in line with industry frameworks and standards (e.g. NIST, CIS, OWASP, SABSA, COBIT, TOGAF). Ensure solutions comply with internal policies, standards and compliance procedures. Coordinate penetration tests with an external provider and assist internal teams in interpreting results and recommending remediation. Work with stakeholders to assign risk ratings for assessment findings and facilitate risk acceptance or remediation processes. Support the maturity of the security risk assessment process, including adoption of application security testing methodologies such as SAST, SCA, DAST and IAST. Role Focus Note that this is not a hands‑on technical role; you will use your technical security knowledge to ensure solutions are appropriately assessed and compliant before go‑live. Required Qualifications Proven track record performing security risk assessments for solutions (mandatory). Strong understanding of web applications, APIs and their vulnerabilities. Knowledge of relevant industry standards and frameworks: OWASP, NIST, CIS, SABSA, COBIT, TOGAF, ISO‑27000 series. Excellent stakeholder engagement and communication skills. Understanding of cloud technology and compliance (As‑a‑Service). Knowledge of communication, network & security protocols, cryptography, authentication & authorisation, certificate management, identity & access management and threat modelling. Preferred Certifications (not mandatory) CompTIA Security+, CISA, CRISC, CISM, CISSP, ISO27001 LA/LI, AWS/Azure Security.
