Overview Australian Citizens With baseline Clearance residing in Australia only respond Scope of Work WHSE Officer Level 3 (Advanced Practitioner) Location: HSPO, Cairns Clearance Level: Baseline Skillset: TBA About the Role A Workplace Health, Safety & Environmental Officer is required within the HSPO for 3 months with an option of 2 x 3 months, under broad direction to support the HSPO Director through the provision of complex work health, safety and environmental work within an integrated workforce. They are accountable to ensure they have knowledge of and compliance with legislative frameworks, government decision-making and Defences mission and policy requirements. Accountable for research and analysis activities to identify and address work health and safety risks to capability. Develop and implement work health and safety programs. Provide advice on the application of work health and safety legislation and Defence policies and procedures. Contribute to implementation and continuous improvement of work health and safety management systems in accordance with legislation and Defence policies. Engage with internal and external stakeholders on complex and sensitive work health and safety issues. Work collaboratively with stakeholders and subject matter experts to resolve work health and safety issues. Evaluate activities and processes for compliance with work health and safety legislation, policies and procedures. Resolve problems using professional expertise, taking the initiative to identify alternative courses of action and implications for work health and safety activities. Experience / Skills Sought Strategic forward planning and innovation Experience/ability in working at a fast pace and multi- tasking to manage and prioritise tasks and workloads. WHSE service with a positive attitude and supportive nature Achieving results in Work Health and Safety delivery within the Maritime district able to ensure they can manage workflow and resources whilst working in a dynamic and busy environment. Ability to continue gaining knowledge of and compliance with legislative frameworks and policy requirements. Working independently with considerable initiative and accountability for the achievement of outcomes of their work. Working within a team and contributing to the enterprise strategic goals. Communication is critical to have a high standard of verbal and written skills and desirable to have demonstrated the development of WHS plans and reports. Relationship building with a considerable level of stakeholder engagement and liaison with stakeholders in relation to WHS issues. Complex problem solving and innovation with the ability to innovate solutions and resolve conflicts with change management and process improvements. Qualifications Essential Qualifications: Formal qualifications in Work, Health, Safety & Environment minimum Diploma level and two years experience. Highly desirable: Previous experience in the Defence preferably in a maritime or SPO environment.
